I recently upgraded to a new laptop with Vista installed. I noticed that Steam freezes up every time I look at the Valve store. (I was trying to look up Geometry Wars)
I noticed it does this every time. Anyone else have this issue?

Steam just generally sucks, no matter what operating system.

Having Vista on my computer is one of the worst experiences with computers I've ever had. It breaks if you're using Ares, it has funny little disappearing icon problems, it mutes ALL the sound on you sometimes for no reason and requires a reset to turn it back on, and at this point in its life cycle, it's less compatible with third party stuff than Linux is. I don't know about Valve, but it's certainly giving me trouble using most everything else.

Funny that possibly the best video game ever made is so closely associated with one of the most disastrous programs ever made.

Steam does suck either way. However, I'm sure glad I decided to stick with XP with OS X 10.2 running inside XP

I have read that Steam has problems with Vista all the way around. And I agree with the other poster, Steam just sucks period and should be removed from the earth in it's entirety. If it takes another lousy, buggy MS operating system to send it to it's grave so be it.

I like Steam, I've never had any issues with it and I've been using it since Valve first started it.

I've been fighting with it since Valve started it. What really aggravates me is that fact that it's just another completely unnecessary layer of "copy protection" to deal with, and not very good at that. My latest go-round with Steam/Valve was when I discovered that for some reason it suddenly didn't think I had Half-Life installed on my computer - Steam would keep showing me that I had to pay $19.99 for the original, and meanwhile I'm sitting here staring at the original CD with original serial code and original box. I put in the serial code and it kept telling me it wasn't valid. I wrote Valve about the problem and they told me I'd have to send them a picture of the original game CD and jewel case with serial number visible and readable if I wanted to be able to use it again. Thank you Steam/Valve for treating an honest, paying customer like a criminal that has to jump through hoops just to play your product I legally purchased at a retail store. Next time I *will* just burn a pirated copy so that when they turn around and tell me I can't use it anymore at least I don't feel like I've been screwed out of my hard-earned cash. Their slogan should be "Steam - turning honest customers into illegal pirates since it's inception!"

if you played valve games like half-life or its many mods hassle free before steam, steam will annoy more than if you are a newcomer. I used to have fun playing day of defeat and counterstrike before steam reared its ugly head.
