No online Multiplayer for Metroid Prime 3

Well this is gonna be a real bummer to some folks.  I guess it really doesn't matter because the single reason for this title's exsistence is to see how a FPS really controls on the Wii.

What do you guys think?

The Prime series (and Metroid in general) has always been more about atmosphere and path-finding over pure shooting. I would never refer to these games as "FPS"s, but rather good examples of the burgeoning genre that is first-person adventuring. I don't think the lack of MP hinders the game one iota - provided it is good in the first place (which we of course don't know yet).

I really don't care.  The one thing I hate about playing online is having to combat the teenagers that dedicate their entire lives to practicing.  Example: play a randomized Halo 2 match with a 14-year-old who manages to completely humiliate you because he plays for 12 hours a day (and then he'll tell you that you got pwned in his pre-testicle-drop pitch).

I had to laugh at the idiotic comments on Joystiq, the usual "OMG tEH sux0RS Ninty u Sux!" type stuff. Fact is, real Metroid fans don't care about online. 3D Metroid has never been like other FPS games- it is about exploration and adventure. It has more in common with Resident Evil 4 then Halo 3.

Besides, every reviewer manifestly panned the local multiplayer in Prime 2. That was a waste of development time for that game. Much rather they spend it on controls and the single player game.

No online Multiplayer for Metroid Prime 3

I am completely uninterested in online multiplayer on almost any game with only a few rare exceptions I could count on a couple of fingers.  Still I have no idea why Nintendo would not have worked with Retro to make an online multiplayer component to this game, given that they know this is a common criticism of their direction, and that there is a significant minority of gamers that want this kind of functionality.  I think that the game is more FPS-like than its predescessors just makes the need for that kind of component all the more clear, since so many FPS these days seem to be built as much on their online multiplayer experience as they are on their single-player campaign.

I think this game would have been a good chance to show off the online abilities of the Wii and that Nintendo is capable of making games that fit that bill.

This does nothing to hurt my desire for the game.  For my own selfish reasons, I am actually personally hoping that it isn't as FPS-like as people are saying it will be.  But I also know how important that demonstration is for Nintendo, and being a fan, I'd like for them to pwn the naysayers.

I personally could care less.  Personally my chances of picking this game up at all are slim to none.  I really didn't like Metroid Prime (it gave me an awful bout of motion sickness) and I will stick to the classic 2D games.

I know alot of people loved Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS and online multiplayer was a big part of that game...yet the single player experience suffered.

I'm sure this game will be one of the biggest hitters in Nintendo's lineup this year.  The lack of online multiplayer will probably not dissuade too many people.

With Nintendo you have to take the good with the bad. They do what the heck they want, and don't really rely on "common perception," that is, they don't seem to make decisions based on blog comments and so forth.

And, to their credit, the unconventional thinking has them dominating this generation. But it also helped them lose their lead before.

Overall, though, I'll take a company that follows its own muse. You get more interesting results.

So true, so sad, and yet so funy, too.

THis is a very big issue for a very small amount of people, but it gets blown out of proportion because they are the dominant and loudest group. Not that there would have been anything the matter with online play, but this game sreries is far from reliant on it.

The only thing I would want to have available for online play would be a game like Goldeneye so a few out-of-state friends and I could play together.  Definitely NOT to play against random geeks who will of course find some way to cheat so they have the highest overall online score.  Nerds.
