Yes, absolutely this is a case of Sony charging too much for something that is, essentially, just a toy (I love them too, please don't shoot me).
If you think about it, the PS3 is a way better DEAL than the X360, just considering the HD size alone. but it's sooo much more expensive, that you have to ask if you're really getting your money's worth when you can get so many more identical games with an xbox 360 for the price of the PS3 alone.
It's a similar case with the PSP – not that many people are willing to shell out 200 for a handheld.

Is Wii winning by default?
This is probably the completely wrong forum on the web to post this to (but I'm lazy today). Anyone know about putting Linux on the PS3? If you could boot to it and use a regular computer monitor it might actually be a pretty good deal as a server. Heaven knows it sucks as a game system.

Yeah, I installed Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on my friend's PS3. We had it hooked up to his LCD TV. It worked pretty well, but we obviously had to get a custom-made distro for the PS3. Making the wireless work is also a chore.

Before all 3 mordern systems were out, my money was on PS3, win show and place! Wii was weird and underpowered, and while 360 had a nice following, THE PS2 DOMINATED LASTGEN! I figured all those faithfull PS2 owners would jump to PS3.
Which they might have if it had cost $399!
Sony priced themselves out of the game. It's like setting up a lemonade stand-Lemonade, twenty bucks a glass! I don't care HOW HOT it is, I wont pay THAT!
And Nintendo Won a LOT of support with the DS-in my opinion the Dslite is one of the most perfectly FUN systems ever made; the doubt people had of that at first was overcame and thus the Wii had a better chance, day one!
