Best Gamecube Multiplayer games

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » July 5th, 2007, 1:28 pm

Recently I tracked down a copy of Mario Power Tennis on the Gamecube.  I thought the game was alright when I first played.  I put it to the side and didn't play it again until last night at a friends house.  I decided to bring over some Cube games and four controllers to see if we could have some Cube fun on the Wii.  Needless to say Mario Power Tennis was friggin incredible!  We had some heated matches and everybody was able to pick it up and play right away. Everybody loved it.

I never really played too many multiplayer games on the Cube because nobody wanted to play the damn thing...now that the Wii has opened up the minds of a few of my friends (the Wii is a great gateway drug ) I would like some suggestions on some more Gamecube Multiplayer games.

Here are the few that I came up with

Super Smash Bros Melee
Hunter: The Reckoning
Sega Soccer Slam
Def Jam Vendetta
Beach Spikers
Godzilla: DAMM
Timesplitters 2

Thats all I could think off...

My two cents:

Super Mario Strikers - Just plain fun as hell.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - or "how I spent a solid month"
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - That is, if you have 4 GBAs!

Also for those with four GBAs would be Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures.
Super Monkey Ball 2 is also fun.

I think I'm just gonna hold off and get Super Mario Strikers for the Wii when it comes out in a few weeks.  The online multiplayer really should make it a nice purchase.

I will make sure to pick up Mario Kart: Double Dash!!  Its been on my radar for quite some time.

Can you play FF:CC with two gamecube controllers or does multiplayer require the GBAs?

Thanks for the Monkey Ball 2 reminder.  I loved the 1st game and I hear the second one is even better.  Anybody play Banana Blitz on the Wii?

I have Banana Blitz. I think the main game is really good on the system (and even harder than in the first 2 games), and it has a couple really good mini-games. Although a lot of the mini-games are completely throwaway the game is still worth picking up for the main game and the good mini games. I'd say it's one of the top 5 Wii games.

I know everyone dogs them, but one or two Mario Partys are fun. I like 6 b/c it uses the mic. But there doesn't need to be one release every year.

Here's my top 10:

1) Super Smash Brothers (This will absorb hours of your life)
2) Mario Kart: Double Dash (Likewise)
3) Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 (These are great single player and multi)
4) Donkey Konga 1 & 2 (You can get the bongos CHEAP now)
5) Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters Future Perfect (These are probably the best FPS on the system and they are great multiplayer games)
6) Karaoke Revolution Party (This game is great if you have the mics)
7) Animal Crossing (Not your typical multiplayer game... but having 4 people play this at different times is cool)
8) Def Jam FFNY (The best wrestling non-Nintendo fighting game on the system- awesome voice acting, great graphics, great unique gameplay)
9) Super Mario Baseball (Only for two peeps, but a blast anyways)
10) Star Wars Rebel Strike (This game kind sucks, but it features a co-op version of Star Wars Rouge Leader. This is awesome)
11) Mario Party 6 (The mic games are good)
12) Pikmin 2 (These games are great, and the mulitplayer in this one is pretty unique)
13) Fight Night Round 2 (These are great boxing games. This one also features Super Punchout)
14) Custom Robo (Take one for the team and finish the boring ass solo mode to unlock everything, then introduce it to your friends with everything unlocked. Pretty unique fighter here)
15) Tales of Symphomonia (One player RPG... but if you have a girlfreind or buddy to help you, you can fight two player battles.... which is pretty cool)

No, you need the GBAs.  You use the GBA screen to choose items for your character and do other customizations and game actions.  This helps to not clutter the TV screen with menus for each player when the stinky brown-colored substance hits the rotating blades.

See, I was going to mention Tales of Symphonia, but I wouldn't really consider it a great party-type multi-player game.  It's great if you have friends that want to sit down and be immersed in a terrific story, but it's not a party game, there's too much plot and puzzles and map wandering.

But, actually, it's a 4 player action RPG.  And to clarify FMV's wording for readers who haven't played it, you all team up and fight random encounters together, not fight each other.

-Pac-Man Vs. is a great 4 player game for the GC. It requires a GBA and a link cable for the GBA.

- Alien Hominid has a mini-game called 'PDA Games'. Its a great simple 4-player game.
