Well I may not be a big microsoft fan, especially their software protection program on windows XP (I own a legitmate copy of windows, I upgrade and reformat my computer a lot, and apparently they decided that I installed it too many times on the same computer, so everytime I reformat, I have to call Microsoft to get a new 30 digit number from a guy from india who cant speak english.) But regardless of the past, this is was the right call.  The 360 has a reported 30 percent failure rate, probably because it is so damn powerful and so cheap, they probably pushed it too its limit.  Now that the news of the failure rate came out, this was a great way to show that microsoft does care about its customer.   Now I dont have to worry about having a broken for the next 2 years.  So Kudos to microsoft for this decision, but boo on on most your other decisions.

Also if anyone got their 360 repaired, be sure and call Microsoft, because they claim this program is retroactive, and they will refund any repair fees.

This is great news!  I wonder if they will give me a refund for the extra 2 year warranty I just bought a few days ago, or if they will just tack it onto the end, turning it into a five year warranty overall?

Its great they are extending the warranty, but have they said they have fixed the manufacturing issues in the first place? Imagine collectors trying to find a working 360 15 years from now!

They are already making 360's better. They are using smaller chips that don't get over heated.

Well they aren't yet.  They will be though.  It's in the works, it's just not in production yet.

Ugh, looks like I'll be needing to pick up one of those cooling devices soon. I didn't realize the 360 was THAT unreliable.

No offense but where do you live under a rock. People have been complaining of unreliability since launch.

Yes yes, of course I've heard the stories. But I didn't expect it to be a 30% failure rate, and I also expected that the problem was fixed in future iterations of the console. I generally thought I was OK since I bought mine well after the launch window.

But that is not the case. So far, so good though.
