Would UBISOFT make Red Steel 2?

...and RE4 Wii Edition.  Those controls are the best so far.  Best of any console FPS in history, I'd venture to say.

Hmmm... most FPS fans I know wouldn't consider that an FPS.  To be completely honest, even though I am not an FPS fan, I wouldn't consider RE4 to be an FPS either.

Ok then, a third person shooter.  Whatever you call it, the point it, it has the best control of a shooter of its general type ever.

I agee with m0zart here. Resident Evil 4 is terrific, no doubt. But it has more in common with Gears of War than Halo.

The problem with RE's controls (which are fantastic for the type of game it is, obviously) is that it is ill-suited for the sort of lightning fast, run n' gun action that FPS games have become known for. This is especially true for multiplayer oriented games like Halo 3. You need to be able to strafe, fire when running, and you have to be able to turn on a dime, all things you can't do in RE4.

This is no knock on RE4. It's one of the greatest games of all time- and it's control limitations are certainly there to provide gameplay balance: it is scarier if you can't just circle strafe around people.

What is needed is 1:1 pointer control: instead of the "bounding box" technique used by all Wii FPS games (where the pointer is in a center box, and the turning is initiated once you leave that area), the pointer should turn the screen immediately, with perhaps a button to put you in an "aiming" mode where the pointer moves about the screen without turning (which is actually how Resident Evil does it).

So I guess you could say: Keep RE4's "aim then fire" control, but add the ability to turn with the pointer intead of a thumbstick. Then you'll have a terrific FPS control scheme.
