As you know, I am a Nintendo nerd. I was thinking how much it would sucked if Nintendo would have eventually been squeezed out of the market by Sony and Microsoft like many were predicting not long ago. That would be enough to have me quit gaming, but I know there are many SEGA partisans on this site, who did not quit but had to turn to other platforms. If you are one of these, where have you turned and why?

I was just curious. Not to be a troll, I just don't feel a company like Sony, who uses their games systems to push bluray and high def, wether you want it or not, and MS, who can't make a profit in 6 years but they are just so big than can continue to absorb losses, are in the same class as the older companies who just focus on making GAMES! More and more I think gaming is getting sold down the river, and these kids who started on Playstation really have no idea what gaming can be. I know this sounds pathetic, I am getting to old, I am not relevant!

I know SEGA ain't what they once were, but I think they can fix themselves by getting back to their roots and focus on arcade style games. Shadow the Hedgehog was a very sad attempt to mirrow what everyone else was doing, and that is too bad. They need to get their personality back, and stick to their guns.

Um... I liked Shadow. It was actually a really neat game. I hate the other 3D Sonics though. Except I kinda liked Riders.

I turned to the Gamecube.  It was a sweet system, with a lot of fun, blue sky having, arcade type games.

I have never "TURNED TO" any manufacturer. Please listen once more: I AM NOT A FANBOY! I don't own every sega system ever made, or every Nintendo ststem for that matter! I buy the machine that HAS THE GAMES I WANT TO PLAY! Having said that, while I was sorry to see Genesis go, I could care less about Saturn dying... The Playstation one could do games as good and better, so I'm glad I got that. it IS too bad the Dreamcast failed, but that's the cut throat indurstry. By the way the Sega CD was somewhat multimedia too (CDS and CDGS), and Sega would likely have a multimedia system NOW if they were "in the game". I hope Sega does make a comeback, but if not...there are other systems to play!

As a huge Sega fan previously I was completely hurt by Sega quiting on the Dreamcast. I felt like my loyalty had been  crushed. I hated  Playstation because I felt they had killed the dreamcast. I would argue with gamespot employees every week because they would always encourage new customers to "wait for a ps2" instead of buying a Dreamcast. It seemed like this was happening everywhere in Queens and Manhattan. So when the Dreamcast died I felt Sony was partcialy responsible. I was never a huge nintendo fan. I always thought they never had that Sega attitude. I felt they had a more kiddie image. Even though Sega had kiddie games also their lead character Sonic had this serious confidence about him. I would read the Next gen magazine and they would talk about a project they had called xbox. The more I read about it the more I was liking it. When I played a demo unit in a store with the original halo /w a friend that sealed it. I needed that system. I always thought that Sega would make awesome games after this because they no longer would need to worry about there own hardware losses and they could concentrate on great gaming. I was wrong. It seems like every game they make now is worse than the game before it. I never been so let down by a company ever. The only problems I've had with Microsoft is the fact that their consoles seem to not have QC. Lateley I've been liking all systems and companies because they all have there good games.

Well said. I enjoyed reading this. By QC, you mean Quality Control, right? Like the consoles breaking and stuff?

I'm so worried about mine. I've spent nearly as much time using it as a DVD player as I have a game console. I love my 360.

You know i've been waiting for this thread for a long time.

As a huge Sega fan, I know what its like to be burnt bad by the company you support. However, I see a potential in Sony that leads me to believe that they are the future in home consoles (or at least being the main competition to Nintendo).

I own a Wii and A PS3. For me turning to a company such as microsoft to replace my sega cravings doesn't sit well.

Plus it's almost silly talking about the hardware so much as for the most part, software is what drives the hardware, without quality software the hardware will fail.

sega has had flashes of their old selves (feel the magic is a good example), but for the most part they have made crap. i had all three major last gen consoles, and currently own a wii, with the 360 being next on the block once the price drops, but my gaming tastes still lean toward old-school twitch/arcade style gaming, and we are seeing less and less of this. even most user friendly wii games have retarded storylines i dont care to read up on.

Sega and Atari have a lot in common...they had ONE super, phenomanaly succsesfull system that was #1 on the market for a time (the 2600 and Genesis), but then they were like "We're #1, so people will buy anything that is SEGA/ATARI!" Well, both got their buts kicked. Atari's 5200 was trumped by the Colecovision- since Atari had MATTEL beat, they thought "Coleco? HA! Just a TOY company... they'll die quick!" But CV was superior and in the end Atari made games for IT. Now, I do NOT fault Sega making the Sega CD... after all, we were all CD-Rom crazy at the time... but the 32X and Saturn were terrible mistakes, just like the Atari XEGS and Jaguar were...too little too late (I have and love my Saturn, but neither Atari or Sega could top Sony's Playstation). As Sony is learning now, just because you WERE Number one doesn't mean you'll always be that way! If Sega had trashed the 32X and Saturn and waited, DREAMCAST might just have saved them!Just MHO.
