The Gaming PC has it...
eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SUPERLOCKED Edition video card...
eVGA 680i SLI motherboard...
Intel Quad 2Core Q6600 Processor...
2.4GHz
Silverstone 750 Watt Modular
Lite-on 20X DVD Burner
Seagate Barricuda 7900.10 320
Ballistix 2Gb Memory+
Imagine all of the mods that this PC can handle... Xbox360...PS3... Wii...
Well if you can provide a console that is better than this low-end modified PC... This is just the low-end list... Top-end R3zIztance PC's will have 7.2 GHz... Quad 3Core X750 Processor...
All these consoles are cheap end PC's that are getting sold for extremely high prices...
When it comes to gaming nothing beats the PC...

I hate PC gaming. I remember taking forever to be able to install LotR 3 into my computer. I had to get a new video card and everything. And then when my brother got Lego Star Wars, it needed to be updated AGAIN. I got really mad and gave up on the thing.

...except for when I want to play a raucous game of 4-player Power Stone 2 replete with arcade sticks and the requisite hootin and hollering on the couch with my (live, in-person) friends. Can I get that on the PC?

You talk as if they're they're ripping people off by selling outmoded low end hardware at a huge profit. Actually they lose money on consoles, making up for it with the software.

Wow, that's a lot of numbers, here's another: 1. It's the number of years before your computer will need an expensive upgrade to play a game you want. Here's another: 2. It's the number of years before your computer can't play anything at all besides puzzle games. And finally: 3. Approximately the number of worthwhile games that'll come out for the PC over the next year.

With the possible exception of the Wii, I tend to agree with you. Today's gaming consoles remind me of diecast model "car kits".. they are NOT really "building" models, just toys you snap and screw together...but by calling them a "model" they grab a piece of another market... the PS3 and X360 are pretty much PCs sans the keyboard. Hell, they even have HARD DRIVES and OS's now!
I think consoles WERE and SHOULD be simple. Plug in a cart or Disc and turn it on and PLAY!...no downloads, no patches, and I don't see the point of offering Internet Connect either... because most people HAVE a PC! I doubt there are ANY console gamers that don't also have a PC so why MAKE these things so much like a PC!? Do we all really need five or six Multimedia platforms in our home? If the console world doesn't take Nintendo's cue of SIMPLER=BETTERwe could be in for another crash!

LOL Alien, I have to chuckle at posts like this, because of industry people, Nintendo included, had the views you have, what a different world we gamers would be in.
Look. It is easy to avoid patches while using the 360 (can't speak to the PS3, don't own one). Just don't take the thing online. It isn't hard to sign in to the console and ignore connecting to Xbox live, and hence no more patches.
Gamers do want internet connectivity. But that doesn't mean that it is limited to competitive gaming. I think the Wii has a largely positive "online" experience despite only one online competitive game available for it.
I do think you can have your cake and eat it too: The Wii can do/will do most things the other consoles do, but with a simpler, frendlier interface in general.

That PC is actually future-proofed quite well with a quad-core CPU.
