Wii Games

So I almost bought a Wii today (about two seconds away before I dragged myself out) and the one thing that stopped me was the lack of good software.  It has Zelda, Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4, and... I can't think of many other high quality games.  I know Warioware is supposed to be good, but it is a collection of mini-games, and Trauma Center is cool, but I already own it for the DS.  People have been criticizing the PS3 for the lack of games, and maybe it doesn't have enough to justify the price, but looking at the list of its games I see more that would be classified as great comparded to the Wii (Resistence, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Rainbow Six, VF5, Motorstorm, etc.).  I also see a whole lot of mini-game type software for the near future, while the PS3 has Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, and GTA yet to come.  I'm by no means a Sony diehard, but it seems to me that the PS3 has gotten a lot of undeserved criticism for its games while the Wii has been able to avoid much of that.  Obviously it doesn't help that the PS3 is in direct competion gamewise with a console that is nearly identical in performance and cheaper, but still... Anyone agree?

Yep, but at $250 I don't need to complain as what's included and what it's used for (party style games) I've no complaints.  Give Raving Rabbids a shot though, it's a riot.

As it is I've yet to finish Zelda or even try out all of the Metal Slug games.  My 360 keeps me happy on the single player side of things, plus there's tons of really good PS2 games to go back to.  And if you want to try good single player games for the Wii grab some cheap gamecube games.  They play just fine and you can catch up on some of the stuff you've missed.

I think there are some titles that you are dismissing out of hand. Here's some non-mini games you might like:

Red Steel: The Critic gave it a much better review than most, for good reason. It's a solid FPS with great music.
Elebits: A sort of FPS/Puzzle game hybrid of sorts. Weird, but fun. I would rent first though.
Excite Truck: A fantastic racer. Spending some time with a boring, sim racer like Forza 2 makes me appreciate just how much fun this one is. A can't miss.
SSX Blur: A fantastic, A level sports game. Really fun and looks great.
Sonic: Better than the other new Sonics. A fun game.

Besides those titles, Wario Ware is much better than you think. Trust me on that, because I thought it was awesome. The marble madness type games are supposed to be good. There's The Bigs, with motion controls. I wouldn't worry about games. Even if you are not pumped by the current selection, there is so many heavy hitters coming out soon, you'll be satisfied in no time.

Sorry to sound like a commerical here. But I always get a little bugged by the "no games" argument, since I've been playing numerous games for the system, and enjoying them mostly.

That may be fair, as I haven't actually played any of them, and obviously it all depends on an individual's taste.  But I do put a lot of stock on how reviewers score a particular game, and a quick check on Metacritic shows that only 12 games have received an average rating of 75, and of those only six have achieved an 80 or better.  Compared to the PS3's 27 games of 75+ and 18 80+, or the 360's 92 games at 75+ and 58 80+, it seems a little thin.

You're confusing reviewer tastes with good games.  Give it a few years, once the tastes have changed those numbers will be reversed.  I remember when reviewers liked what I liked, and then they went crazy, like they are today, and started taking marks away for cartoon graphics and short lengths.  Before long minigames and arcade games will be the norm, and games that are now getting 80% will be getting the 40s they deserved all along, and arcadey type games will be getting 80s and 90s again.  I imagine, as you seem to agree with reviewers, that isn't a good thing.  Sorry.

I think Burnout (any one of them) is a much better game than Excitetruck.

Here's what I have aside from Zelda and RE4:

-Excite Truck-Extremely underrated racer (except for on this site; check the critic's review)
-Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz-Best Monkey Ball main adventure yet, plus some really fun mini games.
-Super Paper Mario- Great gameplay, plus it's actually very funny.
-Rayman: Raving Rabbids-This game is absolutely hilarious, and is a great way to introduce non-gamers to the console.
Wii Play-Comes with a remote, but it's worth the ten bucks extra.

Among those I've also rented quite a few fun ones, and I can strongly recommend Korinpa: Marble Mania.

You're confusing opinion with fact.  You may believe that for a game to be decent it has to be a shorter, arcade styled game but I certainly don't.  Don't get me wrong I enjoy shmups and arcade games too, but I don't think that a good game has to be that specific type.  I'm also confused as to why you seem to believe that arcade games will soon be the norm, and today's modern games will be pushed to the back burners.  I think the simpler games are becoming more common now because of the wider audience Nintendo has found, but I also don't see any signs of regression from the more complex, "modern" games either.

Except that all you are doing is using opinion and then calling it fact.

Truth is, you are going to find a lot of people on these forums who have a very high distrust of metacritic and professional reviews in general. Yes, you are right: if you judge the Wii's library by metareview scores, then the library, frankly, looks like a pile of crap.

However, you will find many people on these forums, not just myself, shaking their heads in disbelief over how wrong some of these reviews are. Just ask JustLikeHeaven (a happy PS3 owner, hardly someone you could say is just trying to support Nintendo out of fandom), Paul Campbell, a, The Critic, or myself about this.

You should also take a closer look at the meta reviews for Wii games. Often, you will find many games that have many high marks, and some very, very low marks, bringing the score down into the 70's. Take SSX Blur. There are some dreadful scores for that game. But also some very high ones. It is my experience that the high scores are mostly correct.

As far as the industry heading towards simpler games, I guess I'll just shrug my shoulders at that. I don't really know if that's the case. I do know that, at the very least, there is a market correction going on, and an underserved audience for arcade type games is being found. To what extent remains to be seen.

That is true, but I also didn't condescend on people who disagreed with me.  You are also using opinion as fact by saying most reviewers are "wrong," and then saying that the ones you selectively agree with are "correct."  There will always be a group of people who don't agree with professional reviews of games, but when a consensus of professionals who are supposedly unbiased rate a game as high or low, that's usually how people decide whether a game is good.  It's like that with every other art form.  I'm sure there are a million people who hate the Beatles, but they're critically acclaimed and have millions more adorers who love them; thus, they're recognized as the greatest rock band of all time.  Seeing as I have no way of actually trying out these games without purchasing the console, I'm going to put more trust in a large body of individuals who are paid to criticize games rather than random people in a forum.  That being said the Wii still looks great, especially at that price point, but the 360 also may look better after their rumored price drop at E3.
