[QUOTE=The Video Game Critic]Umm, guys I was talking strictly in context of console games (as with everything else on this site - duh!).

Yeah, a lot of things are commonplace in the PC world, but that doesn't mean they're going to win over the console crowd.  Remember, gamers continue to desert the PC gaming scene in droves in favor of the consoles.  If you try to force the PC model on console gamers, you'll just turn them off.  You talk about "downloading user mods" to a typical console gamer and their eyes will glaze over.

Critic, we're all talking in the context of consoles as well.  Having user generated content won't mean anything unless your console is online to share.  Console users are quite used to downloading maps at least on the 360.  We're not talking rocket science.  Anyone that owns a Wii has at least attempted to purchase a VC game assuming they've got a wireless setup.

There's no need in stating console users are idiots.  If the game is setup with an intuitive interface that gives the user a simple method of browsing available options there's no reason console users won't flock to user generated content.  The best PC selling game of all time is the Sims with a majority of its content generated by its users.  The same thing will happen in the console space for a similarly developed game.

Oh c'mon now!  Where did I say console gamers were idiots?  I was only implying that they were less interested in modding and sharing content.  I never said they didn't have the intelligence.  Hell, I program on-line apps for a living, and I absolutely have no interest in doing that stuff in my free time.

Same here, on all counts.  I do enjoy the VC titles, but I think online for consoles is going to be naturally limited due to the interests of most console gamers.

User-created content on the consoles has a very long history.  What was the best part of the original  Excitebike?  Duh, you could make your own levels and play them, something even the Video Game Critic enthused about in his review.  This is like that, only now there's the added thrill of sharing your creation and playing those made by others.
