Sony: 60GB PS3 Discontinued After July!

Postby Sudz1 » July 13th, 2007, 1:08 pm

They seriously could have cut the price in half and I still wouldn't consider buying it.  I don't care about watching BluRay movies and there are only 2 games out for the PS3 that I have any interest in playing.  Don't even get me started on those 'made by Fischer Price' controllers.

Oops, now it's really official: 60GB PS3 is dead.  From the mouth of Kaz Hirai himself: http://atvs.vg.no/player/?id=10235 (1min.48sec. he says it).  WOW!

Wow, thats some of the worst marketing I've ever seen.  Just when things started to look slightly better Sony goes and shoots themselves in the foot.  Dumb, dumb move.

The only way I can see this work out is if they no longer bundle the 80GB PS3 with a game and knock the price down $399.  If they announce that for the holiday season they might be able to right the ship into the correct direction, but I highly doubt that it will happen.

Sony might have to pull out of the market soon and cut their losses.... Alright well too bad; Never liked Sony & never will. Microsoft pride!

On the plus side, though, the $600 price is a bit easier to swallow considering that they give you a game with it (that's not to suggest I'm sticking up for Sony on this).

Wow. I'm flummoxed, to say the least. They finally make the overture that is needed to restore credibility, and they instantly erase it.

Clearly more proof that Sony is now run by alien pod people controlled by Miyamoto and Peter Moore.

The only thing that would have made that damage control press release more ridiculous is a laugh track.

On the other hand a permanent $100 price cut probably would not stir things up a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, its a lot of money, but it just shows how far out of the mainstream they've been from the begining that even 20% off you still look too heavy to carry. Easy for us to say they should give them away more than they have. There's two much chrome on the Cadilac.

Doesn't excuse the unbelieveable way this is being handled. Funny, funny, funny.

Idk its hard to tell with Sony... Still you're right even though $100 is alot of money it still isn't worth buying a PS3 for $500.00... Yeah a 360 seems like a great deal do most people compared with that.

Looks like the 80GB model won't have the hardware in it to allow for emulation.  Emulation will be done through software instead and expanded through software updates, like it is done for the European PS3.

I am happier now with my decision to get a PS3 early on.
