I was wondering what Genesis games that were ported to the SMS are fun to play? Any suggestions?

Golden Axe was an extremely good port, actually. Unfortunately(maybe due to just waking up), that's the only one that springs immediately to mind. Check that one out.

Streets of Rage is real good.  I think Afterburner is good, but the critic disagrees.   Ghouls and Ghosts is solid.

Really, In the final years Sega made a huge leap in technology on the Master System....Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Ghouls n Ghosts, Strider....every one is a GREAT 8-bit game.

Of course all have had to be stripped down a bit; Altered Beast has no voice and blank backgrounds at Boss battles, Golden Axe only lets you play the Warrior (but still choose diff. magic)...

I think 8 bit Sonic was most disapointing. When brought down to 8-bit size, it could not begin to compete with Mario. The loops are gone, the SPEED is gone, details are washed out. Sonic was really MEANT for 16 bits!

Really going to have to disagree with you alienblue!
Altered Beast, Strider and Golden Axe all suck on sms, its due to the limitations of the console and some poor programming. They used background tiles instead of sprites to make the large characters in the games, but that just makes them incredibly slow and choppy - and limits the amount of colours in the game. To see a large game character in a sms game done properly check out the fabulous first two Asterix games, Obelix is really big, perfectly animated and moves fluidly.

Sonic is brilliant on sms, but if your constantly going to compare it to the genesis/megadrive version then you'll be dissapointed. Well the sms was never going to be able to re-create the genesis game, its a 8bit console, that most of its design dates back to 1981! I'm very glad they made an almost totally different game for sms, its not a watered down port, its a unique game that makes the most of the console, and makes a good accompalice to the genesis game. The Jungle levels in particular are beautiful and totally different to any of the levels in any of the genesis sonic games.

Most games wern't ported down to sms anyway, they were developed at the same time. The games that were released on both systems and work really well on sms, and in some cases are far better than their genesis couterparts include:

Streets of Rage, Dynamite Headdy, Bonanza Bros, Ecco, Castle of Illusion, Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine, Road Rash, Robocop vs Terminator, Zool, Tazmania, Columns, Wolfchild, Micro Machines, Krustys Fun House and loads more...
