Okay, so everyone (well, the majority) seem not to want to deal with Sony's super-expensive PS3. Things don't look too rosy in Sony land.

Wouldn't this be a good time for a third vendor (did I hear someone say SEGA?) to produce a next gen console to compete with the Wii and 360 more on their level? From what I've seen, the "old" Dreamcast is slightly higher res than the Wii... combine that with motion sensor technology, at $399 or less, you could have a winner. Especially if the company had the rights to hugely succsesful titles (Did I hear SEGA again?).

What do y'all think?

I wish Sega made a console. They would have to make awsome games again though. I don't know if they are capable of doing that again.

I've lost all hope for Sega. The best I anticipate is just to collect and play most of their older games.

At this point, I think it would be very difficult to compete against Microsoft being that they're practically willing to spend whatever it takes to buy out the competition.

To be more specific, Sega would have a hell of a time to try and gain market-share and exclusive rights to games when Microsoft is more or less standing right behind them with a bigger wad of cash.

The only reason Nintendo is doing so well with the Wii is essentially because it's more family and kid-friendly. Whereas Microsoft is totally the opposite, they represent and target the hardcore. So surely they could probably care less about.. *Nintendo fanboys cover your eyes/ears* some cheesy-lookin' game.

HOWEVER, if Sega were to suddenly unveil a new system that was very powerful, reasonably priced, and somehow able to blow the 360 and PS3's graphics out of the water.. ? Then we might have a ballgame.

But.. again, it's all about exclusive titles. You could have the greatest system ever made, but without the games.. it's worthless. The PS3 is a prime example of that. For the moment anyway.

I think MS is in worse position than Sony, myself, as far as videogames go.

MS has never made money, and their shoddy console will ensure they won't for some time.

Plus, Sony has PS2 and to a much lesser but still important extent, the PSP.

Also, MS got in to protect against Sony taking PC share. So if multimedia-heavy consoles continue to not live up to their expectations and hype (as far as people really taking advantage of non-gaming features or even caring about them), as they have since the so called "trojan horse" NES, then why should MS continue to fight that fight?

I doubt either will quit, and EA is probably more likely than SEGA to make a system. They are even bigger than Nintendo when it comes to having the biggest piece of software pie.

The worm is sure turning though.

That's a very interesting thought - Electronic Arts making a console. Just imagine all their sports games becoming exclusives! haha

But EA is strictly software-based, right? I mean, surely they might the money to try to put something together. But I dunno. They'd have to hire on some serious clientele, like Apple or something.

I bet they could do it if they wanted to. Look at the FC Twin. Plays SNES and NES games, comes with 2 controllers and sells for a paltry $35 brand new, and I reckon Yobo is making money of the hardware cause they're aint no software revneue! The point is, it don't take long for computers to get cheap, granted that is 20 years old. But Nintendo sold the GC for less than $100 at the end and apparently made money off it. EA has no reason to include something expensive like a Blueray drive, so they could make a reasonably powerful, traditonal ("no wimote") console for I bet pretty cheap. Undercut Nintendo and aim for the casual market, who only buy Madden and a handful of other games anyway. Of course, if they made they're software exclusive like you are suggesting, they would be betting the farm and hoping their EAt-it console really takes off.

I'm not saying they will or they want to, but I bet they have the means.

Well, I was thinking more of a partnership between EA and SEGA. What if this hypothetical console had (1) Exclusive EA sports games...that is, EA could make games for the others but the (lets call it "SuperSega") would have a version of Madden, NHL, NBL etc... that had EXCLUSIVE features (like when Sega nabbed the rights to SF2: Champion Edition, leaving SNES in the dust) and (2) Made mordern 3-D versions of their old hit games, SUPER SHINOBI:THE DARK SIDE RISES or THUNDERFORCE DELTA and of course a SONIC adventure ANNNNNNND to top it off STILL did not forget us 2-D lovers and made DREAMCAST-like shooters and fighters.

I'm poor, but if Sega made something like that for under the magic $400 mark, I'd buy it (and just for the classics/2-D, I hate sports..). An Analog motion pad superior to the Wii would be a nice thought, too. Lightning CAN strike twice!

I always thought that Apple should make a video game console. They're in every other electronics category, why not videogames? Except they might have pledged never to do so after the Apple Pippin.
