What games are you excited for?

Postby JustLikeHeaven1 » July 17th, 2007, 10:35 pm

Well E3 just wrapped up and while there wasn't any huge news...some awesome games were showed off.  Here are the games that made the biggest impression on me

Folklore (PS3) - I have been tracking this game for quite some time and luckily the impression for this game have been outstanding.  People say that its fantastic to play, vibrant and beautiful.  It was released to rave reviews in Japan, but it didn't sell well.  I read that the guy who created Devil May Cry is behind this wonderfully weird game.

Heavenly Sword (PS3) - Again this is a game I've had my eye on forever, but the E3 impressions have me frothing at the mouth to get my hands on it.  Everyone said the same thing...amazing animations, stunning graphics and a deep rewarding combat system.  Rumor has it that a demo is hitting the PSN next thursday.

Mass Effect (Xbox 360) - I'm not lying when I say that I want this game more than Halo 3.  This is THE game for the 360 in my book.  The impressions have been favorable and Bioware's record is perfectly flawless.

Bio Shock (360, PC) - I'm a big System Shock fan and this game looks like its combining those games with Fallout's sense of style and humor.  This game is quite the looker and it should be a creepy interesting take on the FPS genre.

Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros Treasure (Wii) - I love a good ol' point n click adventure.  Toss in wonderful motion controls and quirky graphics (not to mention pirates) and I'm sold.  Everyone says this game is great and hopefully it doesn't fly under too many people's radar.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii) - Wii Zapper?  Hell yes!  I want this game and I want it now.  It looks like a terrific light gun shooter...hopefully it finally bucks the trend of crappy RE offspins.

Stranglehold (360, PS3) - This looks like the next gen Max Payne...except alot less gritty and hell of alot more awesome.  The game looks fun, plain and simple.  I'm sure it won't be mind-blowing, but damn I need a new balls to the wall action game in my next gen systems.

What impressed you guys most?

Virtua Fighter 5 on the XBOX 360.

If it plays better than the PS3 version, then I'm definitely buying a 360 Elite.

Just buy a 360 premium. There's no need to waste money

I had a hard time choosing between Mario Galaxy and Mass Effect. The deciding factor was the fact I wanted to get at least one more Wii game this year. I can always get Mass Effect and Resident Evil Chronicles early next year.

I can't list any PS3 games, because I don't own the system of course.

But otherwise:

1. Wii Fit. Looks really cool. Could have enormous potential with other games.
2. Mario Galaxy. Looks very interesting.
3. Umbrella Chronicles. Yes yes yes. I want this bad.
4. Mass Effect. See JLH's comments. I feel the same way.
5. Halo 3. I want to finish the darn fight. And knock some heads in multiplayer.
6. Nitro Bike (Wii): Excite Truck with motorbikes and full online play? Heck yes! Sign me up! Good on Ubisoft for making this underheralded project.
7. BioShock. Cool story idea, fascinating looking game.
8. Metroid Prime 3. The trailers look AWESOME.

The only next-gen system I have is Wii, so don't be surprised that all of my games are for that.

1. Metroid Prime 3-The first time I tried playing the original Metroid Prime I didn't think much of it, but recently I picked it back up again and I was blown away. It seemed like the game really hit full steam exactly where I stopped playing the first time (after you get the missile and morph ball-about an hour in). I've almost finished it, and I really want more. I understand now why the critic gave Metroid Prime Hunters a C-, because I really can't go back to it now.
Metroid Prime 3 looks like it is going to be even better. Every preview I've read say the controls are better than any console FPS ever, and the Game Informer preview said the graphics are good even compared to 360 and PS3 games. I've already got mine pre-ordered, and I'm looking forward to August 27 more than any other day (that's including the day the new Harry Potter comes out). Not to get carried away, but if the game is as good as the previews make it sound I really think it could be game of the year.

2. Mario Galaxy- Obvious, but the E3 videos make me want it even more. It seems like it is both a traditional 3d Mario, and a vast change from the norm. It looks cool, and Nintendo hasn't made a Mario platformer yet that was anything but great.

3. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles-Before E3 I was thinking this would be a good rental, but now it is something I really want to buy. The zapper looks awesome, and I think the two-handed setup could really lead itself to great precision shooting.

Other than that I'm mainly just excited for the Wii Mario Kart, which will undoubtedly take a lot of time in my console when it comes out. Also, I'm hoping to get a 360 this year (if the price drops $100, anyway), and Halo 3 looks great. I loved Halo. Halo 2 was a bit of a disappointment in my eyes, but it looks like Bungie learned from their mistakes. It seems like they're fixing the guns that they broke in Halo 2; mainly the assault rifle, which was ruined in Halo 2, but is returning to form in Halo 3.

Here are a few more games that tickled my fancy...

LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - I really didn't care all that much about this one, but again raving impressions have left me wanting more info.  People say its a blast to play, creating things is simple and the physics are a joy.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) - Can't believe I forgot to mention this in the first post.  Metal Gear is one of my favorite franchises and the latest game looks rock solid.

Call of Duty 4 (Multiple) - Most sites raved about this game.  I've always hated the Call of Duty games, but thats because I found the setting boring.  The newest game looks frentic and chaotic...and I mean that in the best sense possible.  Multiplayer also sounds fantastic, with different classes and perks for each player.

Fallout 3 (Multiple) - I'm a HUGE Fallout fan.  Those games are easily some of my favorite of all time.  I'm very nervous in the direction that Bethseda is taking...why is 1st person even an option in this game??  I still have a fear that it will be Oblivion with guns, but people say that it stays very true to its roots.  I will remain skeptical, but deep down I think they are gonna knock this one out of the park.

Contra 4 (DS) - This is going to be great.  If you are a Contra fan (especially if you liked Contra III) you will be happy with this game.

de Blob (Wii) - This quirky game looks fantastic.  I absolutely adore the art style of the game.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this game becomes a runaway hit like Katamari Damacy.
