i've been looking to expand my video game horizons lately, and I stumbled into the dark, shady world of Sega MegaDrive/Genesis pirate carts (Super Mario Bros., Super Donkey Kong 99, etc.). I'm looking to get a couple to check them out, but I can't find them ANYWHERE online! Does anyone know where I could possibly get a hold of some of these? I'm specifically looking for Top Fighter 2000: MK VIII.

hmm, pay for piracy. I'm sorry these words don't seem to fit well. As for your inquiry, I have no idea where to find them.

Are you sure there were actual carts made? Because most of these bootleg-type games are only available via their software emulation counterpart.

Yeah, there were actual carts pressed; I got a copy of King of Fighters '98 off of eBay, and there are a couple more pirates up in the International section. When looking at a gameplay video for Top Fighter, the video creator said that he had owned the cart at one point, but it crapped out on him. I know they're out there, I just need to find them....

Hmmm....this thread about looking for pirated games somehow seems out of place here. Granted, some may call me Hypocrite as I own MAME for my MAC, but downloading roms of old coin-ops like ASTRO FIGHTER and MAZEPLUS that will never be playable again any other way (most likely) to me is different than pirating games like Sonic, Mario and even worse current console games... it's like comparing hauling off an old '55 chevy chasis you see (highly unlikely anyone wants it or cares) to shoplifting a CD (um.. yeah, someone deffinitely cares). It's for this reason I never tried to do console emulation, just old coin-op. Also, SELLING pirated games is even worse, again, you steal a CD and sell it to a kid for 5 bucks, this is just not right. How do others feel? Am I being overly sensitive? I don't mean to point fingers at anyone, just venting my own feelings...

These games interest me because they are NOT straight copies; they're chopped up, messed up, and pasted together from many different games, and usually feature exclusive content from the pirates themselves. Most of them are absolutely hilarious. The main reason I want Top Fighter 2000 is because Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan are the main fighters!

Oh...Ok, Kanyo, (I can't remember your whole name), yeah, in that case I am guilty too (confession is good for the sole!), I bought pirated C=>64 games LONG long long ago, such as SUPER MARIO BROS. (a re-drawn version of some other jumping game); I also got commercial games from A European company that were pirated ALTHOUGH in my defense, it was through a magazine ad and I didn't KNOW they were copies (I should have suspected though, with stuff like ARKANOID, Super pac man, and Dig Dug, 5 games to each $5 disc!) Those were da daze!

"downloading roms of old coin-ops like ASTRO FIGHTER and MAZEPLUS that will never be playable again any other way (most likely) to me is different than pirating games like Sonic, Mario"
It is not different.
Just because it's an old, rare arcade game does make it any more right to download/steal than it does a new one. It's still copyright infringement anyway you look at it.
