In looking at my GBA/DS collection today, I realized there were a lot of games I no longer play, and several I hardly ever played. I realized it's not so much what a game COSTS, but Cost+how much enjoyment you get=actual worth. Like, I mentioned I got 4 GBA games recently as "payment" for testing systems/games. But if I had bought them, they would have been $9.00 each. Bookworm, Pokemon Pinball, Mariokart and TAK! ... well, I realized I only played ONE of those games often, Bookworm (I'm addicted, I play it every dang day, every free moment!) Tak! I gave to a freind and the others I played once or twice. So if I had bought them, I'd only be averaging one "high value" to 3 "low-no value" ones. Of course if you collect games, you may collect ones you rarely play but if it makes you happy to OWN it, it's the same.

So what am I geting at? The latest next gen systems. I don't own any, but those of you who bought X360, Wii, or (gasp!) PS3, What is the average of "high value" games you got? I think that would help determine which System has the best software overall. Like if you bought 10 Wii games and played 6 of them to death, and ignored the other four that's a score of 60% high value.

You could apply this to other systems, too. For me, The GBA scores highest at over 80%, DS around 70%. I didn't choose most of my PS2/Xbox games(they were gifts) so I can't really score those, But GENESIS and the Atari 7800, 5200, PSone and Colecovision all score high. SNES, 2600 and INTV-about 50/50 there. Saturn scores lowest of my systems at 20%.

So go on, score yourself! It's easy and fun and your math teacher would approve!

All right, I'll try. Hopefully I will get grade on a curve.

Wii Games I have owned at least for a while......

Still own :

Wii Sports : Pack in, really like, play regularily

Excite Truck : PLayed the crap out of it till I got as far as I could, still play occasionally

Wii Play Layed the crap out of it when first had, still play occasionally

Bought and resold rather quickly ;

SPM : Gave it a good chance, went half way through, got some value, lost interest, sold.

Mario Party : Boring game, for me anyway, dissapointment, some tears, bitterness, got most of my money back on EBAY.

So does that grade a 3.5 out of 5? SO is that a reflection on the Wii or my tastes, har har? Also do I get bonus points for selling 'em and getting some back?

I am waiting for a bunch of games to go dicount and pick them up, either Heatseekers, Wing Island (if really discount), Blazing Angels, or some other such game.

Steerforth: Hmmmm...only 5 games. I hadn't thought of this. You can't really say the games are "%" good or bad until you've sampled a high enough number. I think to qualify you'd have to have played (I'm not guessing y'all are rich, I was thinking you rented/played some games at freinds/tried at store)..at LEAST ten games. These are all relatively new systems, especially the Wii and PS3..the X360 has been out much longer, we'd have to factor that in.

So I'm not sure that qualifies; if it did (I'm terrible at math) I'd round it off to about 70%. So, basicaly a good experiance for you so far!(Anybody a math wiz wanta calcute the Ratio of 3.5 out of 5?)

LEVEL UP!

Well, the only nextgen system I have is the Wii, so here it goes!

Trauma Center: Played to death until I beat it
Zelda: Same as TC
Red Steel: Got bored halfway through
Far Cry: Same as RS
Wii Sports: Play to DEATH whenever friends come over
Wii Play: Same as WS
Super Swing Golf: Play a lot, mostly with friends
Excite Truck: Just got this one, but I'm loving every minute of it
RE Wii: Just beat it last night; best version by far!

So, 7 games out of 9 would make...77% good, although the number would probably be higher if I had more games.  I really wanted to like RS and FC, but they're just too sloppy for their own good.  The percentage will skyrocket come this Xmas once all of the big guns are released.

I like this thread. It is how I think. I haven't played console gaming in fifteen years so when I had been stuck on 8-bit and 16-bit games all that.

It is also why I won't buy a Xbox 360 due to the eventual hardware problems and Live's subscription cost. I mean, a console should last at least twenty years with none of this paid online garbage.

Some of this list varies among the tastes of the user. But below are the absolute value games I've found for the Wii :

High Value

Wii Sports- Godly value. The perfect party game. You will even play it single player time to time.

Wii Play- A chip off Wii Sports block. Very minor game but still has that high value that you will always come back. Tanks is good value.

Mario Kart- This includes all Mario Karts and will undoubtedly include the Wii version. The only Mario Kart I don't play is the handheld one and that is because when friends are over, we play console and not handhelds. Mario Kart is really worth $50 with all the multiplayer mayhem it has (now if only they could add in the single player nirvana that was in Super Mario Kart).

Smash Brothers- At first, I hated this game. Single player, it sucks. But it becomes that game you keep playing when people are around. The game will record how long you play it over time. You can really see how many hours you rack up in it.

Mario Strikers- Again, this is a title I disliked at first. Single player, it sucks. But once you get the fast arcade action of the multiplayer, you play it constantly. The sequel has been getting glowing reviews despite reviewers hating strikers. It is a high value game.

F-Zero GX- Critic was wrong about this game (since Critic only plays games casually since he plays through so many). It is a high value game since it takes so long to get good and beat it. It is truly difficult but very rewarding. Once you unlock everything (if you can), you will still put it in to race around on Meteor Storm track or other tracks for fun. Game looks gorgeous and is very fast.

Bomberman- You can't go wrong with a bomberman! Multiplayer classic that never ages.

Ikaruga- Worth hunting down. The challenge isn't beating the game but getting a high score. You keep putting in the game constantly. It is also fun to play with a friend.

Medium Value

Metroid Primes- Of course, if you hate Metroid, you won't think these have good value. But once you beat it, you will probably want to play through it again later on. I do.

RPGs- Depending on the RPG, when you beat one, you may pull it out again later.

Resident Evil 4- Can be fun to play through again.

3d Zeldas- You will likely play through it again.

Compilations- These are iffy. The games on them can be gold but how often do you go back to them? Nostalgia fills the well routinely which allows another play through.

Low Value

Games Dependent on Graphics- Some games have nothing but graphics for their 'fun' factor. The problem is that these games age the fastest. Ditto with women

Cinematic Games- After you play through it, will you play through it again?

You get the picture.

One of the big values for the Wii is the Virtual Console that has many old, but high value, games. These are...

HIGH VALUE: 2d Marios, Shmups, Contras, Gunstar Heroes, Lode Runner, Devil's Crush

MEDIUM VALUE: Donkey Kong Countries, Kirby games, RPGs, Zeldas

LOW VALUE: Games that are either horrible, unplayable today, or depended on graphics like Legend of Kage.

The Virtual Console has an advantage over today's recent games in that you can tell better which VC games have a high value compared to recent games. After all, the VC games can be almost twenty years old so, by now, everyone knows whether they are a high value or not.

I've only owned a next generation system since last November. I own 6 games for the Xbox 360, and 16 XBLA titles. Of those, I've spent a lot of time on one retail game (DiRT)and haven't even unwrapped one (Condemned), and I've spent a good bit of time with a few of the XBLA games, but the remaining all seem like excellent games that are just waiting for me to spend some time on them.

I don't regret any of my 360 purchases yet.

Very fun thread indeed, good man Alien.

Here is my N64 collection:

-Super Smash Bros. (Awesome multi)
-Mario Kart (Same as above but with single player greatness to boot)
-Super Mario 64 (Top 5 of all time)
-WWF No Mercy (Fav. wrestling game. Great replayability)
-Earthworm Jim 3D (Not up to par with its 2d brothers, but fun)
-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Top 5 of all time)
-The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Almost as good as OT)
-Clay Fighter 63 1/3 (Earthworm Jim is playable, nuff said)
-GoldenEye 007 (Top 10 of all time. Fantastic multi)
-Mario Party (Great party game)
-Mega Man 64 (Not great but not bad. Big Mega Man fan)
-Perfect Dark (Very, Very good)
-WCW/NWO Revenge (Almost as good as No Mercy)

My disappointments:

-Donkey Kong 64 (After playing Super Mario 64 this game felt very bland, gave it a chance but never made it past the first level)
-NBA Live 99 (Akward contorl. Poor bball sim)
-California Speed (Very dull single player, multiplayer was no different)

13 out of 16, 81%. Same as my Gamecube collection, cool.

Donkey Kong 64 (After playing Super Mario 64 this game felt very bland, gave it a chance but never made it past the first level)

I agree, that game is bad. It is big and feels empty, I could not even figure out what to do in the first part of the game, and DK felt very slow to control! Very similar to the 2nd Banjo game, which I also think is a mess, the first one is near perfect.

To keep hating on RARE and their DK efforts I never got into the DKC games. The camera is too far zoomed in and you have to memorize levels instead of reacting to them like a decent game. Also the collision detection seems to be slightly off on some enemies and platforms which lead to cheap deaths.

DK Jungle beat is really good though, and the Mario vs DK GBA game is very old school platform/puzzler.

Other than also being a sweet charachter in Smash Bros, DK has had a pretty tough life since his Arcade days. I hope he is the final boss in Galaxy, he's a better villain than hero.
