4-5 VC games per week?

Postby BanjoPickles1 » July 22nd, 2007, 12:01 pm

How many of you agree with me that 3 VC titles per week is a piddly amount? I mean, you are dealing with 5 systems, soon to be six or more. The nes has over 600+ titles, the genesis and snes both have over 600 titles, the n64 had a few hundred and so forth. I think they could be a little more generous! Granted, some of the titles released originally for those systems will NEVER see the light of day for the VC but there should be more than enough to cover 4-5 games per week! I just hate having to wait out so many bad weeks filled with weak games! Also, I wanted to ask people what vc titles they are waiting for the most. Mine are:

1). Super Mario RPG
2). Ninja Gaiden III
3). General Chaos(genesis)
4). Skitchin'(genesis)
5). Maniac Mansion(nes)
6). Spy Vs. Spy(nes)
7). Haunting: Starring Polterguy(genesis)
8). Blackthorne(snes)

I wonder how many of those titles will hit. I just figure that they may as well come out with the biggest variety possible. Also, what about games developed by long-gone companies, such as Sunsoft and Acclaim? I would hope that a great deal of those games aren't gone forever! I think that, so far, companies are doing a great job of bringing some more obscure titles over. Any thoughts, guys?

I think the rate is fine. Generally, there is at least one interesting title per week, and about one game I fondly remember from my childhood per month. Really, I don't have time to actually devote large scads of time to virtual console gaming, so there are already far more interesting, worthy games available than I have time to play, so that works out fine.

I agree wiyh Banjo, why not throw out more games, the longer they are out there then the more times they are likely to be downloaded. Be interseting how they will organize them as they get HUGE amounts, the little games will get lost in the shuffle, but that is the way it goes.

I'm with Banjo. The rate they release them now would only be good to me if they only appealed games I liked, which obviously they don't. And the way they seem to release games in a series in chronological order (with the exception of Castlevania 4) means I have to wait a while before it gets to the best of some series, such as TMNT IV: Turtles in Time.

Sunsoft is still around, they just haven't produced any games of interest for a long time (mostly pachinko and shanghai games too, neither of them genres particularly popular outside Japan anyway). They got a couple games on the VC in Japam even.

Acclaim's licenses were all bought up by various other companies, so I assume they own the rights to the older games in the series, and are the ones who decide whether to release them for the VC or not.

My most anticipated virtual console titles are:

Contra (NES)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Devil's Crush (TG-16)
Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
Goldeneye (N64)

i dont think EA or Squarenix is on board with the VC, so half of your list is out. i think 3 a week is fine, you dont want the wii store loaded too soon, interest needs to be maintained for the next few years.

I heard rumblings that EA is adding Road Rash at some point in time. Also, I think Square will come around since Enix has put Actraiser out for the snes. I think, given the success of the system, it would only make sense to put some of the more obscure titles that they aren't planning on repackaging on the VC. I actually hope that Dragon Warrior(nes) makes the cut so I can have a copy that doesn't have a crappy battery. Every copy of DW I've owned over the past few years has had a dead battery!! Seriously, though, Square could put games like Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, Rad Racer, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and so forth.

EA would be foolish not to put some of their old games out for the Wii, such as the Strike series, Road Rash, Skitchin, General Chaos, and so forth. I have noticed, though, that it seems like only a few companies are REALLY supporting the idea. For the nes, it seems like only Tecmo, Hudson Soft, Nintendo, Konami, and Taito have put out games so far. Come on, classic companies of yore, give up the goods!!

Square Enix has already released Actraiser for the VC, so they're in. They just won't release any of their popular games (Super Mario RPG doesn't count, they don't own it completely, and Nintendo most likely want it on the VC), as they know people are willing to pay far more for them if they release ports/remakes of them for handheld consols instead.

Is there any chance that a game like Goldeneye would be given some kind of Wiimote upgrade?   That would be so amazing.  I know it's far fetched considering we are working with emulation, but I can dream.
