Third-party controllers...
Have you ever encountered a third-party controller which you found BETTER than the original?
I still use my bright-orange Hip Gear GameCube controller because it's better suited for bigger hands. Perhaps, if the VGC can find it, he should use that and then no longer complain about poor button layout on the GCN controllers.

mad catz xbox controller. Slightly larger than original model but felt more comfterble. Butoons felt better as well.
For classic games, nothing beats mad catz ps2 retrocon controller.

I've been very satisified with the performance I've gotten from my Logitech wireless controllers for Xbox and PS2. Being wireless (and having a quality feel) gives them both the nod over the original controllers.

I have 2 wireless controllers for my PS2: one nerf, and one MadCatz. I consider them better than the original because 1. They're wireless, and 2. They don't break as easily. I find PS2 controllers to be a lot like the PS2; poorly made.

I don't understand how controllers get broken. In past years, I used to slam n64 and ps2 controllers hard against the floor on multiple ocassions. Sure the plastic screw holders have broken but they still have 100% functionality. I am happy to report I'm much more calm nowadays

I think official PS and PS2 controllers are very solid. I have two PS controllers that suffered extreme abuse and they keep working.
3rd party PS controllers break very easily though. I had 3 that completely stopped working.
