what is so great about Psychonauts?

a few weeks ago I downloaded the demo of this on Steam... I couldn't stand the voice acting and the gameplay was the same recycled 3D platformer tripe we've had since Mario 64.

Does it get really good later on, or something?

The game is probably the funniest game ever, as well as the strangest. It may play like a traditional platformer, but the level design is incredibly unique, and makes up for its shortcomings. It's easily the best platformer available on Xbox, and one of the best platformers of last generation.

Personally, I don't get anything from Psychonauts that I can't get ten-fold from the Ratchet and Clank series. Critical darling, but overrated, in my opinion.
