I spoke to the Manager about the mess and he was like "look, we try to stay as organized as possible. We go through the store about once or twice a week but as soon as we do it's a mess". I am not letting the employees off the hook at all but let's face it...it's not like they are paying these kids $20 an hour or something like that. I have been in these stores dozens of times and each time I go in there the customers take things off the shelf and put it back in the wrong place.
The whole "new" game but really used is completely stupid....if you don't like it go to Walmart or Target. I understand that this is important for collectors to get that shiny new case but most people don't care at all. All I care about is price and it is hard to beat Gamestop's used game prices especially when you consider the discount card.
And to be completely blunt...why should they care what a few people think...the Company is experiencing record revenues even with the economy doing poorly as a whole...

First of all, they seem to only get one or two copies of the "niche" games that real gamers want. Why would any store order just two copies of a game? It makes no sense! Next, the prices are always pretty much the maximum retail price, so you can rule out ever getting a good deal. And then there's the store organization, which is a disaster. New games mixed with old. Games out of order. Ugly stickers covering all the boxes. Sometimes they even place the stickers on the spine of the game so you can't even tell what it is!
I think Gamestop can be excused for the niche titles thing. You see, these places usually don't outright buy games- the publishers send them copies and tell them to take X amount and send the rest back to them. Budget bins are usually the games that the publisher said, "ok, don't send them back- just sell em' for whatever."
What happens with those niche titles, if I understand how the model works (I'm not totally sure, please chime in if someone knows otherwise), is that publishers "predict" how much a game will sell, and only produce so many copies. Hence the niche games only have so many available to begin with. Of course, when a game is more popular then expected, shortages happen: Phoenix Wright being a recent example of that happening.

I know I sound horribly corporate, but we don't have room to carry the older systems, that is why we stopped. I understand that this will upset some of you, but as a single employee, or a single store, this is not our decision. It does NOT make me a lazy, horrible, nerd. I don't really play video games. (And yes I am sure that this will cause even more rude remarks.) In my defense on this decision, I do my research, watch all of my gamer friends play when we hang out, but I simply don't have time to play.
Maybe I am taking all these comments too personally, but not every Gamestop is the most horrible place on earth.

I agree with Mig though - shop at gamestop you get what you get. It is just funny that I should really care how tough it is to keep games organized, I reckon no one wants to hear me cry about how tough my day at work is, lol. Cowboy up!
Alls I know is the 2 gamestore I go to aint got a problem keeping things organized, they help ya if you need it, and in and out you go. So I am satisfied with where I spend my money, more than happy to give my money to someone local.

There are no gamestops in Canada, but there are EB Games. I rarely go in there, but the times I went, its always jam packed. The stores aren't very big compared to others, and its always very crowded. There's always a huge lineup waiting to buy games too. The employees are always servicing customers, and I understand why they don't have much time to keep the shelves neat. I don't mind this much, however, as I just tell them to get the game with me.
Gamestop and EB Games are basically the same thing now. I used to prefer EB before Gamestop bought them out, because they had a more organized store and allowed online preorders which were picked up in the store. That feature ended when Gamestop bought them out.

Best Buy on the other hand, is very inviting. Why? The games are easy to find and they're always NEW and UNOPENED. Best of all, they sometimes have some nice sales.

I think there are 2 issues here. 1) Going to Gamestop and 2) Buying from Gamestop. I rarely go to Gamestop for many reasons. The main reason is that I am never greeted when I go into the store. That is a personal pet peeve of mine. I'm not even asking for a "Can I help you?" but it would be nice to get a "Hello". Living in the California Bay Area, I can safely say I have been to at least 15 Gamestops. At no time was I greeted or made to feel welcome. I won't speak for all Gamestops as others have pointed out pleasant visits but I can certainly speak for the ones out here. So, if I rarely go to these stores, why have I visited 15+ stores? Well, because of the selection. As much as I like Best Buy, they don't have everything and most of the lesser releases do NOT go on sale so retail price is not an issue. Having said that, I have NEVER bought a new game at Gamestop. If they have something I want, I will either go to Fry's or order from Amazon (free shipping over $50 so I at least save a few dollars). What have I bought at Gamestop? 2 used games because I could not find a new copy anywhere and a couple of hint books. And if they start sealing the hint books, that will stop also.
The bottom line is that I don't like Gamestop for the following reasons (and people have mentioned these already):
1) Trying to sell people a used copy to save about $3. That is an insult
2) Unfriendly staff - from my experience
3) Sticker placement. C'mon, sometimes it is obvious they are covering what people want to see.
4) Cramped conditions.
5) Opened "new" games (now that I think about it, I did buy 1 "new" PSP game that was on sale during the holidays)
6) My personal favorite reason to hate Gamestop now - Because a manager posted the following comment:
"There is not one single Gamestop employee that isn't irritated by customers like you."
