Gamestop Complaints

Today I went to Gamestop. I bought a new game. What I received was not only an open copy version of the "new" game, but they tried to give me one of their generic boxes without a manual. I asked if he would sell it to me for a used price. He said he could not do it. So I walked out.

I'm sorry, that is totally unacceptable. I mean, even the most ignorant customer should not be gyped like that! A new game sold with a generic case?! That is ridiculous!

Yeah no doubt.  Years ago, I had preordered Metroid: Zero Mission from Gamestop. I was out of town for three days on its release date but I called them and they said they'd hold it.  When I went in, they didn't have any more copies except for one they had put on the shelf... and the box had been really damaged by browsers and they had misplaced the manual.  So basically I was getting a copy that had a sorely damaged box and no manual.

They were surprised that I wouldn't take it.  I couldn't quite figure out why.

The only time I've taken a game that was sold as new but was actually opened, I did so because the game was sold out everywhere, and wouldn't be available again for a month or so.

I am a 20 year old female and recently went into the Game store in Blackburn to buy a game as a gift, the game in question was marked as an 18, at the checkout i was asked for my ID which I unfortunately did not have with me.

I was then subjected to a barage of abuse starting with a loud and aggressive "CAN YOU NOT READ" followed by a lecture on the licencing laws of this country.

The store was busy at the time and the outburst attracted a lot of attention which was extremely embarassing.

I have complained to game and will not be shopping here again.

To Game, - yes I can read and that is why I have a real job rather than  working as a minimum wage shop assistant.

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry makes a rental car reservation but when he goes to get it, it's gone and the staff acts like clueless idiots who don't understand the whole logic behind reserving a copy.

If you pre-ordered or reserved which inlcudes a down-payment, a copy should have been set aside by default.

I went there 2 weeks before Christmas and was going to buy 3 EA games beacuase they were offering $10 off, the 2 sports titles were marked $59.99 but rang up $49.99 which was correct but then he rang up the need for speed that was marked $49.99 which should have rang up $39.99 but still rang at $49.99 I said that was not correct and he looked at me like why not. I explained how the first two rang with the $10 mark down but not the third game, he said it was missed marked and I was out of luck. Very rude about, I even filled out the survey when I got home and have never recieved anything from them.
Does anyone know a coporate email I have not been able to find one.
I will not go back unless they at least apolgize for them being so rude and I spend at least $500 a year in thier stores, I know to them it is not a lot but if many more people stopped shopping there it would maybe make a dent.

Pros:

1. I can buy a used game & return it for a FULL refund within 7 days. I've returned several games that worked correctly, but simply didn't like them.

2. Customer service is great. I've been to about 10 Gamestops in Michigan & almost all had great customer service. Sure employees may have some inappropriate conversations, but it doesn't bother me. It keeps it real & they always acknowledge me.

3. Competitive pricing: Usually can't beat Ebay, but can most other retailers.

Cons:

1. Like Wal Mart they destroy the competition. There are no privately owned game stores near me. I miss them since Gamestop squeezed them out.

2. Selling opened games as new. I didn't even know they did that. That should be public knowledge. Instead they hide it. Very decietful & shameful business practice.

3. Condition of games:  Like most of you I collect. When I want the manual, case & a near mint disc I don't look for it at Gamestop. When I want something cheap (like an old sports game) I don't care about quality. Several times I've had to take back used games that didn't work. That is very annoying. The worst part is that they admit that they DON't even bother to test games.

Bottom Line: I use them just as they use me. If I can get a good deal then I'll give them some dollars. I feel no personal attachment to them. If they go under then I would not care much. I would love to love them, but they are not the mom & pop shop that I try to support.

Yeah, O-Storm hit it with his pros and cons

It's pretty good to be able to buy a game or accesory and take it back within 7 days. This practice saved me from spending $50 on a crappy game like Spyborgs (it was supposed to be an ol' school beat-em-up; it sucked).

And because they're employees of an evil corporation, they don't care about whatever reason you're taking it back. It says you can on the receipt and so they take it.

Like O-Storm, I try to take advantage of the prices (like GBA and Gamecube games) but I don't go there when I'm looking for a new game or a a game that I want in good condition.

We're consumers and we have a choice how to spend our dough. Make the most out of it.

I forgot to mention how GameSpot often sells pirated games under the guise of "used games." I ended up with a pirated copy of Advance Wars 2. I should've noticed that the image on the cartridge was stretched beyond reason.

How frickin hard is it for Gamestop to show us the cover of a game? I mean, they've got these ugly stickers, and they expect people to buy it? I hate it when that happens.
