Metroid Prime Hunters matchup

The controls took no getting used to for me, because I played the demo to death and am quite comfortable with it. However, I can see it being a small problem for some people, especially someone who's never used anything but dual analogs. I finally got to play my copy tonight (the fiancee fell asleep so she actually put down Animal Crossing Wild World), and I'm impressed. It feels very solid (and amazingly close to the GameCube Primes conidering the hardware differences). I'm taking it online tommorow if I get the DS away from my significant other.

Everybody, email me your Metroid DS friend code at the address above, and be sure to state who you are on these forums. I'll compile a big list of everybody's Metroid friend code, and mail that out.
I'm thinking in a few weeks, when we all have copies of it, we should arrange a big matchup for VGC forum regulars... we need to give everyone here ample time to get a copy. Maybe we could make it a monthly or bi-weekly event, at some given time, in fact...

Metroid Prime on the Cube was highly overrated and I really wish it failed so that the series would have stayed in 2D.

Don't get me wrong I tried to enjoy Metroid Prime...I really did. Except that it constantly gave me bouts of motion sickness (worse than any other FPS I had ever played). Little by little I tried to get through the game, by playing in very short intervals. Eventually I gave up. How would you feel if one of your favorite franchise suddenly became unplayable? You would be pretty pissed too. My roomates also got motion sickness while playing too (and they never get it from FPS). Also while Prime did receive critical acclaim it will never be considered one of the greatest game of all time. Super Metroid on the other hand is constantly in the top 10 of all time greatest game lists.

That's mainly because most "top 10" lists are made up of games that people believe were particularly innovative or good for their time period. Metroid Prime is the 5th-highest ranked game of all time (according to gamerankings), and its average score is even higher than Super Metroid's.
There may be a solution to your problem, though. When I originally played Prime, I was using a standard 27" TV with a composite connection. I got a 51" HDTV recently, and when I tried to play Prime on it, I also got a case of motion sickness. After I hooked my Cube up to the TV using a component cable, the motion sickness went away.

[/QUOTE]The gamerankings.com top ten is a little skewed since it only goes by totally number of reviews found for a particular game. Since old games didn't have the benifit of the web for reviews they only have a handful to be rated by. So if one magazine gave Super Metroid a bad review it would hurt it significantly more than a bad Metroid Prime review. This really benefits newer games and the top ten of all time reflects this since you will find not a single game pre-PSX or N64 on the list. Super Metroid may have been innovative for its time, but you could easily argue that it has withstood the test of time. It was fun then and its fun now and thats why its considered one of the best.
As for the motion sickness - I was playing Prime on my roomates 52 inch big screen TV. I actually thought that this might be the culprit, but playing on a 27 inch TV still made me sick (though to a lesser extent). It sucks because most FPS tend to give me a pounding headach. The rare exception to this Halo 2 and I think its because the game moves at a slower pace than most FPS. I am also not that techno-savvy and I'm not sure what the different cables do. I am assuming that a composite cable bumps up the video quality but I'm not 100% sure. Though I couldn't tell you the difference between a component cable and a composite...

I completely agree that Super Metroid has stood the test of time. It is on my personal top ten list along with Metroid Prime. I simply think that Metroid Prime is a better game.
I just checked Gamerankings.com- MP has an average score of 95.8, and SM has an average of 95.7, all reviews taken into account. So, I suppose it's pretty useless to argue based on those statistics.
Composite cables, which have yellow, red, and white plugs, usually come with a system and are pretty crappy. If possible, you should buy an S-Video cable (it has a black plug instead of a yellow one for video), or, better yet, a component cable, which has green, blue, and red connectors for video in addition to the red and white audio cables. Each cable is a significant improvement over the last. I paid $55 for my component cable for my Gamecube, and it was completly worth it. After playing Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 in progressive scan, Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2 on my Xbox (which was still hooked up via composite) looked blurry and dull.
