Who here actually LIKES the Angry Video Game Nerd?
Just thought i'd ask. I'm starting to see a lot of Nerd bashers popping up around here, and it's starting to annoy me.
Also, his new Terminator NES/SNES/SegaCD game review was actually good. It toned down the use of "fake swearing" that people complained about and pointed out valid flaws of those games.
Although i do prefer his earliest videos (I.E. Castlevania II) when he used the swearing less excessively and more naturally. But i don't think his new videos are bad, but the fake swearing does get annoying time to time.

As I noted in the other thread, AVGN reminds me of a caricature of me and my friends back in the day when confronted with frustrating or crappy games.
I much prefer the "more natural" blue language to the over the top, forced swearing I think he started using for a while. Thankfully, he's pretty much gone back to the more natural approach.

I generally like his older reviews better than his more recent ones. His old reviews as both of you said, had more natural anger. Plus he relied more on witty sarcastic commentary earlier on rather than just poop jokes and over the top language. I mean, that was an element in his older reviews, but then they got so over the top and crude, while relying on gimmicks that it detracted from the humor. Though he still was putting out genuinely funny videos occasionally, plus I just like Jame's other work generally so I still am subscribed to him. Plus his reviews are getting back to being flat out funny again and use much wittier, more natural language compared to his last season.
So yeah, I like the "old" AVGN back when he was still the "ANN" and when he first changed to "AVGN." And so far, his reviews this season have been solid. I think a better phrase would be that I like Cinemassacre and James Rolfe. I can see that guy going somewhere big in the future if he plays his cards right.

I'm a fan of the Nerd but I still maintain his best works came before he became popular. I can watch his Back to the Future review over and over and it still makes me laugh.
I just hope he goes back to his more natural persona. I can easily tell he is a highly skilled filmmaker who loves what he does, so I hope he continues to make episodes for years to come.

I never watched him because of some quotations I've seen from him, and it's pretty obvious he's not funny.
I like Zero Punctuation for reviews of newer games and PlayItBogart for reviews of older games, though. Both of those guys are consistently extremely funny in every review, and drop an f bomb only very rarely. (It actually creates a contrast that way, making their usage of it more shocking and generally funnier when they do use it.)

I like AVGN, although it seems like it's getting to be a mixed bag between genuinely entertaining reviews (like the latest Terminator review) and stuff like the "James Turd" and "S*** Pickle" episodes. The latter ones are just plain ... embarrassing.
If anyone is looking for more informative reviews, the "Happy Video Game Nerd" is on Youtube (who covers games he actually likes). Unfortunately, one of his episodes has a sock puppet named "Neck Meat" or something like that. *sigh*

I don't enjoy his reviews, I'm puzzled why he's such a topic of attention at forums like this. I don't understand why a YouTube poster needs fan clubs or threads about disliking him and the other junk that litters classic gaming forums about him and his clones.

Love or hate him, people sure love to talk about him lately. Never paid much attention to him myself.

I am issuing the following challenge to myself: never watch the AVGN.
So far I've met with only success. :-)
