I assume you mean Viewtiful Joe, but it isn't on the Xbox.
That's the game that the critic said was somewhat over-hyped, I think.

It was, and he was dead on with that assessment (but scoring it higher than Okami? Blasphemy!).

But yeah, Sega should go back to the formula that worked well in the first two Sonic Adventure games if they're going to stick to 3D, and if they choose 2D, go the Kirby 64 route; that was a wonderful game.

Another idea may be to do what Edios did with Tomb Raider; take the series away from Sonic Team and give to a team that knows what they're doing. As much as I hate to say it, that may be the best move to save Sonic.

Eh, I loved Viewtiful Joe!  I think it's at least A- material.  I played it on every mode unlockable using each new unlocked character.  I can tell ya, playing the game with Captain Blue on the highest difficulty mode is one of the hardest gaming experiences I've ever had.

There is Sonic Rush but I never Played it. It would be nice but they should not have any spin-offs like Shadow The Hedgehog or that Mario Party Wanna Be Sonic Shuffle. They should have stuck with 2d and just improve on the graphics.

PS The first level needs to be changed. It is always some green Island.

Personally, I think that Sega should put some of their franchises into the oven for just awhile. With the exception of the Virtual Fighter series(which Sega still does right, in the eyes of many), Sega's franchises have grown extremely stale. Think about it, Sonic hasn't had a great game in so many years, Phantasy Star has grown tiresome, the Vectorman project looked poor and was eventually cancelled, Shinobi sucked, as did Nightshade, etc...oh, and the last Outrun sucked as well! Sega can't even do new franchises well, either....Billy Hatcher was horrible, Amazing Island was a pile, the F-Zero made for GC was alright but FAARRRRR from the best one. It sucks having such fond memories of the Sega from just twelve years ago and watching them fumble. I was relieved, in a way, when they took the software route because it ensured their survival. I'm not so relieved now, I simply just don't care anymore.

Its funny, at the beginning of this thread I said screw sonic, but Sega isn't gonna let the blue furry ADD hedgehog die.  As long as the games keep selling (which they still do) they will keep pumping out the titles.

SO...all it really takes is one good game to revive the franchise.  Seriously, look at Tomb Raider.  It has been producing crap for years and it has one good game and the series is saved.

That being said, I have high hopes for the Soinc Wii game.  Not much has been said about it, but it looks fast and its looks like fun.  If it gets halfway decent reviews I'll get it.  Sonic Rivals has been getting decent reviews, and if the Wii game gets in the 8-9 range the series will probably be "saved".

Broken record time:
In my eyes, Sonic Rush has already "saved" the series.  It's a return to roots thing.  Only 2 playable characters, good speed, multiple paths, great 2D graphics, etc are all much better than the character laden crap fests that have been released in recent years.  Also, despite the length of boss battles the 2.5D bosses really are a nice change of pace without being a bad idea.
If you want Sonic anymore, you have to go portable.

Everything you are saying is true.  Sonic Rush did do the series some justice on the DS...Yet to truely be deemed as saved I think Sega really needs to come through with a rock solid console game.  The reason Sonic Rush worked so well, was because it went back to the basics.  I love my DS, but I would sure be happy if Sega made Sonic and the Secret Rings the AAA title we've all been waiting for.

For some reason I don't think the portable games hold the same weight in terms of fan appreciation.  Maybe its just me...I dunno.

Anywho, good post Atari.

Oh yeah, I understand completely where you are coming from.  That's why I said "in my eyes", as I was ready to give up on Sonic after Sonic Air Riders or whatever it was, Sonic Adventure games on the multiple platforms, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog.  This one game let me see that there was still life left in the series, so I'll give it a little more time before writing it off.  However, in order for Sonic to remain relevant to gamers, a real good console game is definitely needed.  I don't think it'll happen, which is why I always tell people Sonic is only a portable character now.
I think what Sega needs to do is make something for the consoles that looks as good as a cartoon (with big sprites and fluid animation and all that) and just make the best 2D platformer in years, and not be ashamed of the fact that Sonic is best in 2D.  At the very least they need to avoid this:

Seriously, watch just two minutes of that, and try not to be very mad at Sega.

I agree the load times are an absolute joke.  It's not unusual to sit through a 15-second load screen, watch a lousy 5-second animation, and then have another long load screen.  I just finished reviewing this game last night.  It's an easy F.  Wait until you read this.
