I finally watched the IRONMAN movie and loved it.

Then I started thinking "As much as I loved the movie, would I buy an IRONMAN video game?" and then I thought "Why am I taking to myself again?" and "I have no idea"......

Do others feel this way? I see Soooooo many DS/Wii?PS3/Xbox 360 games that are liscensed from movies.......Cars 2, Ironman 2, Thor on and on..... and how many are any good? No matter how good the film is, the games are almost always terrible. Whaddya think?

The PS3/360 Wolverine game is a pretty cool hack'n slash game, don't know about the Wii version though. In general, movies games aren't so great though. Unless you're a diehard fan, I'd recommend you stay away from the Iron Man game. If you are a diehard fan however, there's some fun to be had, if you can snatch the game in a garages sales for about five bucks that is, it's certainly not worth any more than that.

I have to admit I have next to no interest in movie games. They always look so formulaic.

Well, when the producers blow a huge chunk of their budget on the license, you can't expect much. They're relying on the license to sell copies, not positive comments on the gameplay.

The reason why licensed movie games usually aren't very good is because most of them are rushed through production in order to meet the release date of the film.  However they're are some pretty good ones, like Chronicles Of Riddick:Escape From Butcher Bay, i'm going to check out the sequel-Dark Athena real soon.

Movies must emphasize story telling.  Games must emphasize interaction.  While it may be possible to make a good game based on the same concepts as a good movie, it would be difficult because the two media emphasize different things.

Here are some widely-acclaimed games based on movies:

Tron (1982) and Tron 2.0 (2003)

Blade Runner (1997)

The Thing (2003)

Die Hard Trilogy (1996)

Dune (1992)

Disney's Aladdin (1993)

Alien vs. Predator (1999) - The movie was planned for a while, but never actually made it out until a few years after this game was released.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004)

The various Star Wars games

The various GoldenEye 007 games

There have been plenty of great games based on movies, but pretty much zero great movies based on games.  But, of course, with Hollywood's complete lack of originality, this isn't surprising.  They need to rip off foreign films, video games, classic movies, and anything they can to make a quick buck.

The recently released Captain America game has gotten some really good reviews. I have also read that the Green Lantern game is actually better than the movie, which really isn't saying much.

IRONMAN was a fabulous movie, and I am not a fan of the comic book. IRONMAN 2 was terrible, utterly predictible and silly, plus they lost the deep voice that sounded cool in the first movie.

I just started watching the first season of SMALLVILLE......i had never seen it before, and it is FANTASTIC. I think a good game could be made of this, if they stayed true to the characters. Think about it, there are a ton of SUPERMAN games, but only the 2600 one, I know of features CLARK KENT in it. Especially if they featured all the songs of the TV series, it could be cool!
