Leo brought this up in another thread, which got me thinking.

The Wii can technically support 8 -> 4 Wiimotes with 4 Gamecube controllers.
PS3 supports up to 7 controllers
Xbox One supports up to 8 controllers
Xbox 360 supports up to 4
PS4 supports up to 4
Wii U supports up to 5 (6 technically, once they support more than 1 tablet controller)
Saturn supports up to 10 controllers

What game types would actually be fun, where everyone got to play at once around the same TV?

Bomberman style games are a given, but what else?

I was thinking an Asteroid's clone where everyone had their own ship would be fun.  Or some variant where a few might be asteroids, UFOs, and others where ships.

Alternatively, what about an updated Pac-Man game?  7 against 1?  I think Nintendo tried this awhile back with their GBA connection.  Maybe, it would work better today with their tablet?

Warlords, 8 person style on the Xbox One?  If that's not a system seller I don't know what is.  

What do you think, what games or types would benefit by having local multiplayer with up to 8 controllers hooked up at once?

I think Super Smash Bros. would be a great 8-player game. The chaos and destruction and loss of friendship, i can feel it already.

Also perhaps a remake of Guardian Heroes on the Saturn with 4+ Simultaneous multi player - carnage guaranteed.

A Football (Soccer) sim where you are an individual player rather than the team, that would require real teamwork not sure how they would work the camera on that though.

These are all great ideas. You know regarding the soccer one, you might be on to something.  It seems like everyone has a super large TV these days.  What if the width of the field was the width of the TV?  Your guy is just a little guy and everyone has similar little dudes?

That might work.  

So, I'm completely stealing ideas my Atari had but what about an 8 way Combat game with tanks?  You could even have the same bouncy shots and when you hit someone he spins and flips to another part of the map.  Hmm, combine that with a jets / helicopter game and that might make for an interesting dynamic.  

I wonder how difficult it would be to get an Xbox ID going?  On the 360 their Indi program was really simple with tons of tutorials on how to get things going.
