Unreleased Games You Wanted to Play

Banjo-Threeie. Now, I do want to give Nuts & Bolts a shot instead of just complaining about how it's different from the first two, as I feel that being different from the predecessors doesn't necessarily make a bad game, but I am disappointed that the Banjo-Threeie that everyone was expecting (and Rare even confirmed at one point) never came to be.

Also, I'm still mad about Mega Man Legends 3 (granted, I never played the first two) and Mega Man Universe being cancelled.

Another unreleased game that I would've really liked to play is "Demonik", some of you might recognize that name, as it was actually shown in the movie "Grandma's Boy"
This one has a really dumb title, but it was probably my most anticipated game of the early 2000s:

True Fantasy Live Online for the Xbox.

It was a cel-shaded Everquest-like MMO with hack-and-slash and monster hunting roots. It was being developed by Level-5, so I think it would have been pretty good if it had been released. Alas, it was cancelled in 2004.
I remember that!  It was everywhere.  And it really looked like a must have JRPG on the Xbox no less.

//I'd have bought that.  Heck, I bought Phantasy Star Online for the DC (including the broadband adapter) to give that a try.

Sonic X-treme (Saturn)
Virtua Hamster (32X)
Brain Training: Concentration Training (yes, it is released in the US. However, Nintendo refuses to bring this game to the EU, so I can mention it here...)

Back in the early Playstation days, there were plans for an Elric the Necromancer game.
Despite a few pics here and there, the game never came out. Apparently, some of the assets
were used in Legacy of Kain (great game in its own right). Too bad, I'd have gladly offered my soul
to Stormbringer for a chance to play this game back then!

More recently, the Highlander project for PS3 and 360 got cancelled as well. Really had high hopes
for this, it definitely looked like an awesome game in the making .

I'd have mentioned Shenmue 3, but there's apparently a possibility this could come out some of these days
based on stuff I've read lately. So long as this happens in the next 40/50 years, I'm good.

The Ubiquitous Half Life 3 "Vaporsoft", it was only canned because Gabe wrote an insanely complex chain of events in Portal and Team Fortress that do not crossover as an effective plot device.

Trans-universal plot is the only real destructive story element in gaming, other than bad storytelling duh.

Quake was supposed to have been ported to the Game Boy Advanced, showcasing the systems true capabilities well past that of what Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever originally demonstrated. It actually tells us how little the GBA's hardware was stretched due to the stiffer competition (Sony's Playstation Portable).

I always wanted to play Socks the Cat. I still vividly remember the ads and mock screenshots in GamePro magazine. Then President Clinton probably put a stop it. It was about his cat, right?

Also Fido Dido and Primal Rage 2.

I was disappointed that the planned Duke Nukem prequel "Duke Begins" never saw the light of day.

I was really looking forward to Phantom Breaker, a fighting game for Xbox 360 that was supposed to come out in the west. I kept up with the localization for a long time and then one day, the western release was just abruptly cancelled. I heard that there was a sequel (or an "ultimate edition" or something. You know how fighting games are.) in the works for 360 and PS3. So even if that one doesn't get released over here, I can still import it.

I was also excited for Mega Man Legends 3. The cancellation was disappointing but what made me mad was Capcom laying the blame on the fans. Screw you, Capcom.

And then there's the localization of Mother or Earthbound or whatever they were gonna call it for NES. What's really disappointing is that the game was fully translated and practically ready to be shipped. They just cancelled it at the last minute. And there's Earthbound 64 and Mother 3. I would like to have played them. Hopefully that Earthbound Forever rumor ends up being true so I can play Mother and Mother 3. And also Earthbound without having to pay a ridiculously inflated price for it.

And lastly there's a game I recently found out about called Ushiro. It was going to be an RPG for PSP by Level-5. It was going to be set in modern times and have a supernatural story about ghostly possessions. It looked really cool but Level-5 cancelled it for some reason. They're reviving the IP but instead of a game, they're making it into a book. So at least we'll get it in some form.
