This is really strange. Anders said he spent 16 hours a day for playing Call of Duty games. Call of duty has to be one of the most unrealistic arcade like first person shooters there is. I don't understand this at all, but spending 16 hours a day for years doing anything is insane. It also said he played world of warcraft.
Anyways, this is probably the best news Jack Thompson has ever heard. Expect that nutcase to be all of the cable news channels for the next week. What I see here is more feelings of isolation and sociopaths urges, than anything that came from a videogame. Anyone who spends that much time playing a game obviously has problems.
What does everyone think of this. This was a horrible tragedy caused by a horrible person. He is purely to blame, and to paraphrase the NRA; Video games dont kill people, People kill people.

Media has latched onto it to an extent here at home too, but they mostly stopped after comment sections on all articles that had them were filled to the brim with people pointing out how ridiculous this logic is. The most ridiculous part was when a particular convenience store chain temporarily removed certain video game titles from their stores "out of respect for the victims", and after all the complaints they got about how this decision completely missed pretty much every point that could be missed (as well as a bunch of "I had no clue they even sold video games" comments), the entire "Let's blame video games" debacle mostly died off.
If Yahoo is just getting around to this "story" now, they missed the boat by almost a year.

Simply put, I love my violent games but never have and never will own or possess a firearm. I suppose playing Starfox and Wing Commander means I'm ready to join NASA

This guy is just another d-bag looking to put the blame some where else. Sure video games influenced him to kill a bunch of people. That's like saying, "Chewing gum made me want to bite someone's face off."

[/QUOTE]the guy is a loser, you can see it from his very demeanour. He is loving the attention and people hanging on his words. Like most nazis he is out of touch with reality. Even in COD the enemies fight back. Also if you should your own side your game is over. I am not sure he understood this part.
Next he sights world of warcraft as a way of planning his attrocities. I surprised he has not bought Tropico in it as a way of way of planning his revolution.
The guy is a saddo. They should just throw him in a vat of quicklime and be done with it....
He makes me sick.

I completely disagree. It may not be entirely realistic, but it's certainly not arcade-like at all! For console a game series, it's probably one of the most realistic fps's there is.

Always felt like it was a very arcade like FPS. Especially on higher difficulty levels, it was all about reflexes, patterns, and luck. Seems almost like a arcade fps to me set in realistic environments. Strategy and patience never really entered the equation for me unlike things like Brothers in Arms (Although I'll admit right now that I'm 3 or 4 iterations behind everyone else since I pick them up for a song when they get older just to play through the short campaigns). It always felt exactly like an arcade game did. All about finding the right pattern to follow while doing it as quickly as possible.
For first persons shooters set in something resembling the real world, they don't come less realistic than this series if you ask me. The realism pretty much starts and ends with the graphical and audio details.
