Gex was very good, if you count that as a "Sonic clone". He was definitely an attempt at cashing in on the entire "wise-cracking animal mascot with an attitude" craze.

You guys mentioned that the first Bubsy was not panned by critits and you are right, I remember the game being hyped like crazy and appering on many covers of game magazines. As soon as it came out I ran out and rented based on how great I read the game was. I was expecting the next Sonic, it ended up being a peice of crap. For the heck of it I looked thur some of my old game magazines and found a Game Informer March/April 1993 issue (with Bubsy on the cover). The 3 reviewers gave it a 8.75, 8.5, and a 9 out of 10! To put things in perspective one of my favorite games, Streets of Rage 2 was reviewed in the same issue, it scored 6.75, 8.5, and a 6.75. I think its safe to say a portion of Accolade's massive marketing budget found its way into the pockets of various game reviewers.
