Retron 5 Problem...

Postby Ken1 » October 6th, 2014, 7:14 am

I am having some issues with my Retron 5. Any NES game I try to play will not work. The Retron 5 will say cartridge is unknown whenever I try to play one. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hi,

Have you downloaded any updates? The system out of the box doesn't play games well without doing an update! Do you clean you cartridges before playing the games? The cartridge contacts need to be very clean for the system to play the games. How long have you had the system?

Actually, it does read games even without the updates.
Still, some it's supposed to be needed with some games.
I personnally went through the updates right away, and can't
report any issue so far.

Hmmm, so how exactly do you do these updates. With an SD card right? I am not sure how it works.

Yeah, through Hyperkin website, thanks to the links. You install the updates
on the SD card, then insert said SD card in your console. You do have to format
the card in FAT 32, and install some sort of authorization for updates, for lack of a
better word on said card through one of the Retron sub menu. The whole procedure
is explained step by step on their website, and there must be Youtube vids tutorials as well.
Don't worry, it's an easy process.

I read that Hyperkins Retron 5 was system was cracked and the code they used was a bunch of emulators they do not own the rights to. This is a serious problem for them. They could be sued by multiple companies and I don't think Hyperkin is that big of a business. It could potentially put them under.

Basically if you want a Retron 5 buy them now because they might not be on the market very long.

Even a console designed to play cartridges that are 15+ years-old needs the internet to function properly?! Total bummer. On top of that this bad boy was delayed for like 2 years.
