The Evil Within (360)

Postby Vexer1 » March 23rd, 2015, 11:42 pm

The match drop mechanic seemed to work fine for me, I don't recall having any issues with that.

I've personally never been truly scared by any film, TV show or video game, so for me a game not being scary isn't a negative.

Don't remember what my strategy I used for the final boss, for Laura I mainly used ice bolts to freeze her so I could hit her with explosives and also used incendiary bolts occasionally.

Favorite weapon was definitely the crossbow because of the different types of bolts all being fun to use.

I don't remember using stealth that much in the game(mainly cause i'm a guy who prefers shooting everything over being sneaky) so I can't really say whether or not it's viable for every level, but it did come in handy a few times.

Vexer, what difficulty did you play on? I found that EW was a game that very much discourages a run-and-gun approach, for the simple reason that you'll run out of ammo early and often. Even regular enemies on Survival and Nightmare will eat an entire clip from a pistol before even falling down. Don't even get me started on Akumu. This is not primarily a shooting game--that's for sure.

I played on Normal difficulty and generally didn't find myself low on ammo too often(except for that one part where you get chased through the city by a giant monster) as I never let myself get too reckless.

There isn't a "normal" difficulty. There's just "casual," "survival," "nightmare," and "akumu."

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, survival is pretty manageable but nightmare and akumu get downright brutal.

SO-- an interesting update just came out for all versions of The Evil Within. It introduces a pretty drastic (and welcome) change to the visuals: namely, the option to remove the letterboxing in favor of a 16:9 aspect ratio. Who wouldn't make use of this feature is beyond me, so I'm not sure why the option for letterboxing was kept.

Anyway, it makes playing the game a much better experience.

Glad they finally gave us the option, though i'm surprised it took this long for them to offer a fix.
