Awesome review, thanks. NBA Jam is one of the few sports titles I like and I think it has aged incredibly well. I have never played the Jaguar version but I own the Sega CD, Genesis, and SNES versions. The SNES is by far my favorite but this one looks really good as well.

I think it's awesome this port actually was released considering what was going on with the Jaguar at that stage. I too found the SNES way better than the Genesis one because of the awkward turbo. I didn't realize that this version is the only one with music. I think it's awesome, if there was one gripe with the game, it was the fact that it was rather quiet. It's especially funny it's the only version with music since the Jag had so many games that didn't have music, Doom being a huge culprit. I think it's great that the Pro controller works so well with it, when I purchase the game, I'll also get some Pro controllers and the Team Tap. I'd think with 4 Pro controllers it really could be great fun.

Odd they made all the players the same size. A glaring oversight indeed.

Great review, Dave. I have always enjoyed the NBA Jam series, but have never played the Jaguar version (but then again, have never owned a Jaguar before either!).

Not to nitpick, or be the grammar police, but I found towards the end of the review, some omissions of punctuation (commas). Here are some examples:

"Technically this may be the ultimate NBA Jam.." should be "Technically, this maya be the ultimate NBA Jam.."

".. long-range shooters from powerful big men" should be ".. long range shooters from powerful, big men"

"It's easy to nitpick but the bottom line.." should be "It's easy to nitpick, but the bottom line.."

I think the players in general look smaller than other versions and maybe that has part to do with why it's hard to differentiate their height. There's probably a lot more court to work with. Which I'd welcome considering it can get a little cramped in the other console versions. Anyways, great review.

Didn't the 32x version have music as well ? I also presume if you used the 6 button pad on the 32x that alleviates the 'turbo' issue ?
In fact I believe you describe the 32x version as the ultimate version, might be worth a revisit.

Good call Sut. It's been so long since I've played the 32X version I don't even remember it!

Wasn't the original arcade game with big heads? Either way, it doesn't really bother me; It kind of gives the series a less serious vibe.
