Bring Back High Score Challenge?

Postby VideoGameCritic » May 5th, 2015, 8:52 pm

I was thinking about reinstating the High Score challenge forum. I still have all those old messages. The thing is, nowadays we probably don't need to rely on the honors system since people can upload images of these screenshots right? Comments? Suggestions?

This sounds like an awesome idea! Perhaps we could also include completion time and time trials for racing games and platformers.

Definitely don't need to rely on the honour system. I got annoyed one time after a high score controversy on Atariage because people still didn't want to require pics, because "maybe everyone didn't have a digital camera." My 3DS, 3DS XL, laptop, work phone, personal Blackberry, and new and old cameras all do digital pictures. I cannot imagine who the person is who still does not have any device capable of taking a digital picture, yet has a computer capable of going on the internet.

How will the system work here though? What games do we use? How many games a month? I'd love to see a lot of participation from all the regulars here.

I presume emulation would be OK for when we don't own the game ?

Even as a kid I never cared about getting a high score, I only cared about actually finishing the game, so this is one thing I honestly do not miss.

Should I resurrect the old board, or should we start from scratch?

I ask because I think the old one had trolls posting bogus stuff.

I vote start fresh.

Emulation should not be allow due to save states. Not sure how you could prove its not an emulator though.

I guess no matter what it's still an honor system.

What games would be chosen for high scores? I personally love shmups and video pinball.

I vote start new and fresh, especially if you're going to want screenshots (which would be a good idea).

I second this. There are way too many ways you can manipulate emulated games, such as by slowing the game down to make it super easy.
