First Game Played in Classic Series

Postby CaptainCruch » September 23rd, 2015, 8:12 am

I just wondered how old the users of this forum are... to get an indication, let me know what was the first game you played in a classic serie! I'll start:

Mario - Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1987)
Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis, 1991)
Zelda - Zelda: Link's Awakening (Game Boy, 1993)
Rayman - Rayman (Saturn, 1995)
GTA - GTA IV (Xbox 360, 2008... yes, somehow I missed all the others before it)

Good topic, except my answer is pretty boring. I Started with the 1st game in every series that's been posted so far.

Castlevania: The Simon's Quest LCD Handheld from Tiger. Holy shit, it had special weapons, power-ups, and boss fights. It blew away Pitfall! (2600)

Mario: Mario Bros, on the 7800. Graphics so clear and detailed, it beat live action. (Which was almost completely buried in snow, beyond NBC and the local Fox station, no matter how much I played around with the rabbit ears.)

Metroid, Zelda, and Kid Icarus: Mall demo unit. The entire trip home, I watched Samus jump the street's guard rails, playing new levels in my imagination. I wanted to be Samus. And even after finding out Samus and I weren't sharing the same body parts, that wouldn't change until Other M.

Final Fantasy: The first one, borrowed from a friend. It was nearly the last one. The elemental damage was broken, all the time status magic was bugged - really, it was simple, dull, and repetitive as Hell. It was the most painfully boring experience I'd ever had with a videogame.

Ultima: Ultima III, on the other hand, gave me way more choices for my hero, and let me rob and kill innocent people, then escape on horseback, and explore a wide open world. And I played it first.

Sonic: No idea. They're all so similar. It blurs together into just one long trip. Sometimes it was even 8 bit on the go, and CD.

Tomb Raider: Saturn version. The first time a game was so pixelated, I died from not being able to tell where the pit was. Even the 2600 had better graphics.

Shit, gotta go. Finish this up later.
