New System: Sega SG-1000

Postby VideoGameCritic » January 10th, 2016, 1:25 pm

Lately I've developed a fascination with Sega's first console, the SG-1000 released in Japan. I just ordered one off Ebay. If it works okay, I may be adding a new system to the 1980's console section!

I consulted with the foremost expert in the field, Terry Herman from http://www.videogameconsolelibrary.com/

He said the power adapter should work fine but I may need a TV that tunes in to channels 95 or 96 to pick up the video signal. My Toshiba CRT set does, so we'll see what happens.

Hoody Hoo!

This is exciting.

I guess the Dina was not going to work out. I don't know if the America Master System with everdrive could play SG-1000 ROMs or not, but I think there are some BIOS or color palette issues too. Besides, this way you get to play them on the original equipment, with the original controllers, output, and everything. Good luck on hunting down carts on ebay.

Everdrive is a whole family of flash carts for various systems. They are available at several websites, but the creator is http://shop.krikzz.com/

I don't have a SMS everdrive, I just read the forums about it. Its another stoneage gamer product.

and some comments on someone using the everdrive in conjunction with SG-1000 games.

Again, I don't have an SMS everdrive at all, so I've never tried this. If you do, let us know how it works.

Fascinating.

I'm very interested to see what comes of this, although I suspect the library might be a bit lacking. Any which way, SEGA!

Look forward to the reviews. I purchased one a year or two ago but had to sell it. I just couldn't get the thing to work with a PAL TV so had to move it on.
I hear it's a lot easier for you guys as your also NTSC.

My only knowledge of the games is through the excellent Sega Does blog and there does seem to be some fascinating games Star Jacker, Girls Garden to name a few but I also think there is a lot of turds as well especially the sports titles.

Looking forward to the reviews did you get a model 1 or model 2 ? The model 2 you can switch the controllers with Genesis ones as the SG ones are pretty bad.

Glad to assist Dave. Can you please adjust the reference to my website (www.videogamecopnsolelibrary.com)? Thx!
