I kindof agree with Actraiser about the strangeness of a game being so commonplace... but this is very similar to the hype the Wii enjoyed at its release, and we endured that.
And I think the release of the Wii is an interesting comparison. Everyone else immediately played copycat with some kind of motion control, just to get a piece of the pie, and now I think motion controls have somewhat run their course.
It's very interesting to read about their assumptions about the game compared to what actually happened. They really didn't expect much at all. I think the game is buggy both because of server overload and a lack of perceived need for perfection, for a game they didn't think would be played this much.
It will be VERY interesting to see how Nintendo, and others, ride this wave.
