Best Video Games of the Past 10 Years

Postby CaptainCruch » December 1st, 2016, 1:40 pm

So, let's talk about 'Modern Classics': what do you consider the best 10 games of the last 10 year? (2006-2016)

Here's my personal list:

1) BioShock 1 (2007)
2) Shovel Knight (2014)
3) Gears of War 1 (2006)
4) Plants vs. Zombies (2009)
5) Portal 2 (2011)
6) Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
7) Sonic Generations (2011)
8) Command & Conquer 3: Red Alert (2008)
9) GTA IV (2008)
10) GTA V (2013)
Runner-up: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012)

(Not very original, but just the games I enjoyed the most the last 10 years. I probably forgot a lot others. I also missed a lot, because I don't owny any Playstation platforms).

Oh man it'd take awhile to think of everything that's come out that I loved. I'll settle for a hastily thrown together list of what I've enjoyed a lot though.

1) Rocksmith 2014 Remastered (2016)
2) Super Mario 3d World (2013)
3) Mario Kart 8 (2014)
4) Stardew Valley (2016)
5) Uncharted 2 (2009)
6) Wipeout HD Fury (2009)
7) Little Big Planet 2 (2011)
8) GTA5 (2013)
9) Wii Sports (2006)
10) Rock Band 3 (2010)

This thread has made me realise how little games I've played with a release date of last 10 years. However this is more down to time limitations than anything else so I'm going for my top 5.

1). Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
One of the best games I've played ever period.

2). Bioshock
The games original setting and weirdness was a revelation love this game.

3). Fallout 3
Took me a while to get into this but once I did, I just couldn't put it down.

4). GTA V
I've always loved the GTA series and I thought the multiple character route was a great addition. Trevor in particular making me laugh frequently.

5). Uncharted
I don't think it's that great to go back to now as the sequels have surpassed it. However this is the one I spent most time with and completed multiple times and rarely for me actually went trophy hunting with.

The Last of Us
Red Dead Redemption
Persona 4/P4G
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Dead Space
Xenoblade Chronicles
Far Cry 3
DOOM (2016)
Shovel Knight

Thats a pretty decent list right there, if I do say so myself.

Lots of stuff I haven't played, so this list will be missing some obvious winners (such as the Fromsoft games):
EDIT: Remembered more stuff, decided to remove some games because I don't think I played long enough to give a proper opinion (sorry, I won't touch the list again)

1. Hotline Miami
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
3. Bayonetta
4. Super Meat Boy
5. God of War II
6. Portal
7. The Binding of Isaac
8. Super Mario 3D World
9. Spec Ops: The Line
10. No More Heroes

11. Portal 2
12. Mega Man 9
13. Shovel Knight
14. The Darkness 2
15. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Lot of great games in this span, so it's really tough to give a list of my 10 favorites. But here's the list:

10. Kirby's Epic Yarn
9. Bioshock
8. Call of Duty Black Ops
7. Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
6. NBA Jam (Wii)
5. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Super Mario Galaxy 2
3. Portal 2
2. Fire Emblem Awakening
1. Excitebots

I want to add Dragon Age: Origins to this list. Not the expansion or the sequels, but just the basic game. Best RPG experience since Baldur's Gate II
