Thanks for the reviews.

While Iraki Warriors' graphics may not look good when compared with the NES version it is a good-looking 2600 game.

Guardian sounds interesting, and the graphics look cool. To bad it's too easy.

Great to see two new reviews of classic-era VCS games! :D

The only weird bit is the part in the Ikari Warriors review where you mention "the NES original". While the NES game is probably the best-known version, the "original" is really the original arcade game, of which the NES release is a port.

So, would Guardian be a good starter game for anyone we're trying to share our hobby with, or at all decent for zen meditation?

Also, how were Ikari Warriors, Klax, and Kung Fu Master able to bring an NES style experience home, while Double Dragon is nearly unplayable? Did they just run out of space in the cart before they could give the enemies a stun reaction?

If so, it's a shame only Fatal Run uses the full 32k rom available to developers.

The 2600's limited to 4K address space for the cartridge port. Games which use more than that are due to the use of bank switching hardware inside the cartridge, which is not limited to 32K. Stella's Stocking and Zippy the Porcupine are both 64K games, while Bad Apple is a 512K demo.

AtariAge is also working on larger Melody boards of at least 64K (possibly 128K). I picked up an Encore while at PRGE so I can take advantage of the extra space when I reboot Frantic next year to use CDF. CDF is a new bankswitch scheme that improves upon DPC+, and was used to create Draconian and Super Cobra Arcade (both released at PRGE). The extra space will be used for Frantic's speech samples.
