Super Smash Bros announced for Switch

Postby eneuman96 » March 8th, 2018, 6:30 pm

Title says it all. The only concrete information that has been revealed in the Nintendo Direct that announced it today are that it is coming out this year and that it will feature the Inklings from Splatoon as playable characters. No word yet on whether it's an enhanced port of the Wii U version or a full-on sequel, although the former is more likely.

Chances are I'll buy it as soon as possible because I love Smash, but I know some people, including the VGC himself, aren't as likely to.

I used to love Smash but something about Smash 4 rubbed me the wrong way. With the new age of tweaking, buffing, and nerfing characters through updates, I lost a lot of what I loved about the series- using game exploits as part of the fighting. I also never clicked with anyone which really sucked. In all the other Smash games I found a character that I really liked but I never could find that with the last game. Fingers are crossed that I enjoy this one. I'll probably pick it up.

This Direct really impressed me, but it also served as a depressing reminder that, at times, Nintendo fans can be some of the most annoyingly hard-to-please people in the realm of gaming!

The reveal of South Park was, at least for me, a big deal! It’s an extraordinarily well made game, and one that has been successful, and the consensus? “Oh great, another port!” How is a game that launched a few months ago considered a “port?” Besides, many of these same people say that they want significant third party support, and then complain when they get it! It just seems laughably unrealistic. What, do they seriously think that they’re going to get big third party exclusives? Those days are mostly over!

The only unanimously applauded reveal was for Smash Brothers! Personally, I don’t get the hype, and I never have! I’m much more excited for Dark Souls, South Park.....even Labo! To each their own, I guess.

I really hope it's a sequel, and I really hope that we get an actual new Mario Kart that plays more like Double Dash or DS did. Not to hijack this thread to make it about Mario Kart, but the point is, the Swith needs original games.

I enjoyed Super Smash Bros For Wii U and for the Nintendo 3DS because Nintendo hit the home run bringing Duck-Hunt and several new characters such as Pac-Man to the game "Representing" the oldies games of the 1980's, Now it's online wasn't great but it was a step up from Smash Bros Brawl's horrible Wifi-Connection on the Wii.

The DLC part was somewhat "drawn out" and frustrating, I did buy all the DLC stages and characters:Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Corrin, Cloud, Bayonetta, and Mewtwo but it would've been nice if Nintendo had added them in the base game..Nintendo at lease is not using lootboxes to give out random characters (At lease)

Now with the announcement of Sma5h or Super Smash Bros 5, I will probably get a switch when the game releases but I do hope one can play on the Switch's gamepad like you could with the Wii U's Gamepad. :?

What was always interesting to me is that some fans seem obsessed with the roster, wanting even the most obscure characters from a series to make it in the games. Like, if Donkey and Diddy kong are in, they have to put in King K. Rool, or adding Bandana Waddle Dee if they already are going to have Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede.

Smash bros. was always the series for that I was either really excited to play, or not terribly excited for, it depends on my mood I suppose. As far as it being a port or a new game, I guess teasing a new installment only for it to be a port doesn't seem as exciting. However, I believe the gameplay felt similar in both Brawl and in the Wii U and 3ds games, so I don't know if there is a whole lot they can do to make it "feel" like a whole new game other than adding new modes, characters, stages, etc.
