Thunder Storms!

Postby VideoGameCritic » May 14th, 2018, 5:01 pm

You guys know how I like seasons and weather. Well they are calling for some storms in MD tonight and I'm kind of psyched up. Not as cool as a snowstorm, but probably the next best thing.

Good for playing games too - just as long as the power doesn't go out. That is the worst.

I'm not sure if there are any particular games I would recommend during a storm.... hmmm

I can think of specific levels in video games that are thunderstorm themed. Like Lightning Lookout in Donkey Kong Country 3. There's also Persona 4, where a serial killer uses thunderstorms to kidnap and murder people.

A survival horror game might also fit the atmosphere nicely!

Yep, Link has been playing the Song of Storms here in Chicago as well. Hoping to get home before they hit to have my daily whiskey and cigar on the patio. We're under a severe thunderstorm watch, so it's not looking promising.

I'm not sure which games I'd recommend during a storm. Usually I like to cuddle in bed with my wife and dog. Maybe play a game of Madden on a rainy day in Miami? The 1985 AFC Championship Game comes to mind. Since you're in Baltimore, remember a couple years ago, the Ravens were in Chicago during a big storm?

Or NBA 2K18, since I remember having to listen to the Bulls win their 1992 championship on the radio after a storm knocked out the power. The Metroid Prime series has a halcyonic feel to it that can be soothing during storms.

The only suggestion that comes to mind is Haunted House on the Atari 2600. I'd rock that during a thunderstorm

Tonight its golf ball hail and so much rain there are road closures for flooding.

Anyone got games to play to play with that? My thought was Breakout on the 2600. At least you get to play the hailstones taking out your roof

So many great ideas I may need to put together a special feature. Keep them coming!

Any particular Castlevania that has a lot of thunder and lightning?

Castlevania 64 is a great choice! Better game than people say.

Wave Race Blue Storm (GC) might also fit the bill.
