I don't think we've ever played this, it sounds like we've missed out on a few fun Monday nights? You also have a typo in your review... "you're see plenty" should be "you'll see plenty".

I played '99 and '01 a lot, which were really good. It was nice to see EA do every stadium, which was maybe the first football series to do that. It would get you psyched up.

Both of those games were great until I mastered them, and looking back now can sort of be called the quintessential college football games, 98-01, if one doesn't want to be bombarded with too many options of modern games. As far as stadiums go, Triple Play 97 was the first game to immerse one in the stadium atmosphere. When a game starts the camera zooms into the stadium from the sky, it's really really interesting. The 98 version has the best home run derby I've ever played. I think 97's wasn't too shabby either. Both those Triple Play games were interesting but the gameplay was a little rough and got old. The PS1's defining moments, I think of Crash, Twisted Metal 2, and Triple Play 98's home run derby. Now a lot of those sports games get old, but for someone looking for a quick fix they could really hit the spot. Having said all of that, I'm starting to get even more interested in the Saturn and among other genres looking good, it's sports games look good as well. I almost got a Saturn in 97 but peer pressure I didn't. It was looked at as a console on its last legs.

My old roommate and I used to play this game back in the day. It truly was a pleasure to play and the options available were impressive. Your right about running the option too. I wish more developers would get into making football and baseball games to challenge EA. I realize that having the team and player licenses is important to many gamers. However, I still feel like gameplay and entertainment wins out overall. Look at Baseball Stars and Baseball Simulator 1000 for the NES. Made up teams and made up players but just flat out fun to play! Sometimes it's fun just to switch on the system and play without having to sift through a bunch of junk before you start the game.

I agree about the real players being overrated. It was fascinating when I was young and those were the first games to use real players. But I always liked making fictional teams, jerseys, and fake players. It takes a story of its own in a dynasty. FPSFP 97 had a feature where players could make the hall of fame after 5 years retired. It maybe was the first game to do that. And it sucks when you're playing with Marino or someone and he's not as good as he should be. Or Emmitt Smith doesn't break a tackle when in real life he'd be scoring an 80 yard touchdown. Having the numbers on the back of jerseys in college games never bothered me though. Being a huge fan, it was amazing when the first college games came out with the real players, I'm assuming Bill Walsh? But this series NCAA had the real stadiums and players and was great.
