Dead or Alive 6 (PS4)

Postby VideoGameCritic » July 10th, 2019, 10:12 pm

It's taken me forever to review this, but I like it a lot! The fighting style is refreshing, and the game isn't online centric like so many other 3D fighters have become. There's even an arcade mode that keeps score!

The fighting action has a nice rhythm, and the controls are innovative.

Unlike previous versions of the game, the girls are dressed fairly modestly. The lack of blood and gore is also refreshing.

Stay tuned for full review.

A little late, but Critic about the girls being dressed airly modestly compared to the past is a side effect of Sony new polices that took effect in late 2018 as it effect worldwide even Japan/Asia/Korea where it not needed at all. In fact Nintendo has become more lax on fanservice/lewd content lately and it causing controversy especially fans of niech Japanese games. But for DOA 6 case they wanted parity to play it safe, but it was not helped by Sony new policy. Here is more info on Censored Gaming/One Angry Gamer website down below. All of this was caused two years after Sony PlayStation HQ from Tokyo Japan was moved to California due to the PS4 massive success in the western markets compared to Japan/Asia/Korea regions: https://venturebeat.com/2016/01/26/why- ... eads-west/ and with that came a leadership change for the worse over time leading up to this. The first game that was affected was the banning of SUPER SEDUCER for PS4: https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/03/s ... sts/53155/, not long after that Omega Labyrinth Z for PS4 and PS Vita was canceled for a western release as Sony western divisions rejected it: https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/06/s ... ope/62269/, but the game that really started it was the western release of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal on PS4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cPedxbN2JE only to get worse when more stuff was discovered being censored even in Japan where the games have no western release plans BTW.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrvyYVemmfA and here are more examples from these links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8kQ2agsX2w and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuoIzDy2LXQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8T-3bISzHQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRS79oYkGXA and https://www.oneangrygamer.net/sony-ps4- ... red-games/ and https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2019/04/s ... tly/82283/ and https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2019/04/s ... aff/82891/. Heck it gotten so bad that a certain game had to be changed due to the recent polices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-Snwh3i1CA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NUxRvwrSx8 and even caused it creator to leave his company because of being fed up with Sony polices over time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqJtzyM_C00. But the crazy part is lately Nintendo has been more laxed on this stuff with these examples.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGY-ISoLFfE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzFkz0A2t7M. Heck even devs are making fun of Sony new polices as a screw you to Sony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM3sn0ZDVDg

I am glad I Switched from PlayStation to Nintendo as Nintendo Switch is not only the only dedicated video game company left in the console race, but the only Japanese focused one left as well as Xbox brand along with the upcoming Atari VCS and Google Stadia are american brands with Xbox brand and Google Stadia brands being owned by Microsoft and Google who are known to be rather anti consumer and corrupt! And Sony PlayStation has been heavily americanized starting in 2016 with the HQ change and the questionable business practises which I will mention them later if you want to know critic in a separate post as the censorship is not the only thing that has led to a slow downfall post Japan to California change, but also other shenanigans, like limiting Bethesda Mods on PS4, blocking cross platform online play with namely Xbox and Nintendo Switch along with cross platform features like cross progression, shovelware like Life Of Black Tiger being allowed on the PlayStation store download, the lackluster E3 2018 press conference, the poor man's Nintendo Direct called State of Play, and the screw up dumpster fire that is the PlayStation Classic. It shows that Sony Ego got too huge after the PS4 runaway success without proper competition until 2017 with the Switch and Xbox One X.

Sorry for the long post, but had lots to say about this to make sense about this critic.

Might have to check this one out. I lost a lot of friends using the old man in DOA2 on the Dreamcast. They still hold a grudge to this day!

Sorry about it, I was just giving critic info on why the girls in DOA 6 are dressed fairly modestly because of Sony recent police changes that all.

No worries, you obviously put a lot of effort into it and and it’s your “style”. I was just surprised by the amount.

Thanks, I do put good effort when it necessary, that why.

I'm not sure the changes in appearance in the DOA series are entirely related to decisions made by Sony.

If I recall correctly, the original director / creator of the DOA series was terminated by Tecmo, the game's developer, after allegations of workplace misconduct and sexual harassment. This took place a while before DOA 5 was released, and anyone who's played that game can see the differences in the ladies versus the games that came before. They were more realistic looking overall, especially in the face, and had more accurate body types and proportions throughout. The "boob physics" were [thankfully] toned down and nearly removed outright, as the former director of the game was the one who pushed for their inclusion to begin with.

I believe there was a fair amount of public outcry in Japan at the time, as some gamers felt the redesigned characters weren't "sexy enough." Them's the breaks! The way I look at it, if you're a trained martial artist / fighter, you're probably going to be pretty fit and toned. I know it's a video game, and all, but with DOA 5, I felt like the ladies, for the first time, actually looked like the type that could legitimately kick your butt.

As someone who spent a bit of time in art school, learning about figure drawing and proportions, I never found the ladies in the DOA series to be attractive because they looked so patently unreal. The first DOA, along with DOA 2 and Xtreme Beach Volleyball, were just the worst in my eyes. Even the ballyhooed boob physics just didn't look realistic at all. I enjoyed the games, and still have the first one on my Saturn, but the first thing I do when I boot up the game is turn the boob physics off. Otherwise it's too much of a distraction - and not in a good way.

While I haven't taken the dive with DOA 6, DOA 5 is the best game in the series that I have played. My only gripe was that, while there was an arcade mode, it didn't have individual endings for each of the characters. What a gyp! Seeing how creative and fun the character endings were in DOA 4, that seemed like a huge step backwards. From what I've seen, DOA 6 doesn't have arcade mode endings, either. Not sure if that's true or not, but if it is, what a crying shame.

Still, looking forward to the review!

It hard to say either way as it could be chicken or the egg.
