Two more Game Boy reviews for your reading enjoyment. Thoughts?

Good reviews.

For Batman: The Animated Series, you may want to re-review The Adventures of Batman & Robin on SNES as it was once going to be a update port of the Game Boy game, but due to longer development it became it own game acting like a supercharge sequel thanks to the power of SNES here is a comparison.

SNES

A huge leap, and it was exciting as the hardware identity was obvious back then compared to now.

As for The Lost World: Jurassic Park it actually from THQ not Sega so that why the quality is week in comparison. Thank god THQ Nordic is a lot better then the old THQ.

Batman is a great game with gorgeous graphics, top bad it's a very difficult game.

Both Sunsoft Japan and Konami where the kings of quality Batman games before Rocksteady Studios came in with the Arkham games.

Never tried the Animated Batman Game Boy game, will have to give it a spin.

Am curious to try the Lost World game, as I've always been fascinated with games described as "bad Flashback" clones.

I rented The Lost World when I was younger. Yes, I was lucky enough to live by a Mom & Pop video store that rented Game Boy games, and I took full advantage! They also rented PC and Mac games, but that's a story for a different day.

I remember beating it over a weekend and not thinking it was anything too special. I played it on a Super Game Boy, and I do think it had a special border around the screen, though the colored graphics were pretty plain. Nintendo Power completely bashed the game in one of their reviews. Keep in mind that NP was notorious for being favorable towards nearly any game released on a Nintendo System, and rarely gave any game a truly negative review. I think The Lost World got something like a 4 out of 10, which coming from NP might as well have been a straight zero, or even a negative number.

The game is not good. At all. The thing that stands out in my mind the most is the music, as I can unfortunately still remember it to this day. As The Critic said, it's bad. Like, some of the worst game music I've ever heard bad. It's composed fairly well, albeit simply, but the notes come through extremely sharp and don't flow together one bit. It felt like someone was just learning how to play a keyboard and kept making stilted, stiff key presses, like they were nearly petrified with nervousness and afraid to make a mistake. Most of the worst game music I've heard at least has some sense of flow or rhythm, but man, that Lost World soundtrack is like an all-out assault on your eardrums, one painfully sharp note at a time.

If I have to say anything nice about the soundtrack, it was indeed memorable, just for all the wrong reasons...

Sounds like my experience with the Mega Man II Game Boy soundtrack. The actual compositions were good, but the execution was horrid, and stayed with you...

On a side note, I see that Shovel Knight was awarded the Fine Literature Award for its instruction manual. Just for kicks, I clicked on the icon to see what other games had been awarded the title. One I was surprised to see missing from the list is the game with my own personal favorite instruction manual of all time - Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb for the Xbox. Not sure how the other versions' manuals were by comparison, but the Xbox manual was just like looking through Indy's notebook, full of scribbles, taped-in notes, and hand-drawn sketches, with plenty of references and in-jokes to the films sprinkled throughout.

I have owned the game for years and have beaten through it several times, but the one thing that keeps me from getting rid of it (despite its tempting eBay prices) is the manual. Yes, it really is that good! Any chance of "nominating" that game for a retrospective Fine Literature Award?

I pulled this game down from the shelf to check out the booklet, and you are 100% right! This manual is epic! Maps, hand-written letters, newspaper clippings... this puts you IN the Indiana Jones universe! Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I will definitely add the icon, and start a new thread so people can make their own nominations.
