Xbox and Privacy

Back in the Xbox 360 days I voiced concern only having an online Xbox equipped with Kinect left on all the time. I didn't want my Xbox listening to or watching me, all for the thrill of being able to say "Xbox ON" instead of pushing a button.

If there's a microphone or camera in your house connected to the internet, you should assume your are being listened to or watched. I can't get over the fact that people have those Alexa devices. To me they are horrifying.

If you don't care that's fine, but don't be naive enough to assume your privacy is protected just because we're dealing with a "reputable" company like Apple or Microsoft.

Worth remembering Microsoft initially FORCED you to use the kinect at launch for the console to work only for fan backlash to get it patched out. Really. Makes. You. Think.

I can't vouch for it, but I've read that these "mistakes" only happened to users that opted in for allowing Microsoft to utilize their data to improve Kinect voice recognition.

Makes it slightly more palatable if true, but good riddance just the same.
