Top 13 Most Terrifying Games

Postby VideoGameCritic » September 5th, 2019, 4:29 pm

Just in time for Halloween, the scariest games I've ever played:

This is a bit different from the Halloween special, as they games are not necessarily Halloweeny in nature - just frightening.

Let me know what you think!

My first suggestion 4 scariest game ever was alien isolation. I'm glad to see the critic agrees with me. Absolutely heart pounding in an amazing game. :?

Something is wrong when viewing it with Android. Some of the reviews have large text, while others have tiny text.

Thanks for the feedback GTS - I will try to fix this.
Can you tell me the exact model phone you are using?

Also, if you can let me know where the change in text size occurs.
I may be missing a tag somewhere.

Same issue. #10 & #2 are regular size, but all the rest require me to zoom in and scroll around to read. I'm using my super modern, ultra Samsung Galaxy 3 to access the page. I believe all of your seasonal lists have had this issue though.

Okay that helps. If I can fix this seasonal list, I can fix the rest.

Seems to me like #10 and #2 are the short reviews.

Maybe the text wrapping around the image has something to do with it.

I'm also like to know if other people have had similar issues.

Great list, thanks for posting. I had no interest in Alien Isolation - until now. I've added it to my to-buy list. But I try not to play too many survival horror games these days, because they are getting more and more intense - it's not like the old days of Resident Evil where my heart rate could handle the creepy music and occasional jump scare.

My thoughts on the games listed that I've played:
-For me, Until Dawn is the scariest game I've played so far, so it was good to see it on the list. The fact that characters can permanently die by your choices really adds to the intensity. Nothing scarier in gaming than spending 10 hours on a playthrough and then screwing it up!
-Condemned creeped the hell out of me when I played a demo of it on my Xbox 360. In fact, the demo was actually so good that it scared me away from ever buying the real game!
-Definitely agree with Resident Evil 4 being on the list. I played RE 1-3 on my PS1 without issue - but RE4 was the first one in the series that actually started having intense scares IMO.
-To me, the scares in Clock Tower are a little overrated. There is fear and intensity involved with the little scissor guy constantly coming after you, but I made it through the whole game with any major heart attacks like other games on this list gave me. To me, the scares haven't aged as well as other games.

I bought a couple Fatal Frame games years ago based on your positive reviews, but I still haven't played them yet. And this year, I'm hoping to finally play Silent Hill.. I've owned it for years but have never played more than 30 minutes or so.
