Time for my annual Madden review. Was I fair or unfair?

It basically a polished turd for Madden NFL 20, but if you want something to blame, blame the infamous Frostbite (game engine) it what is ruining not just Madden, but other EA projects as well, I did a whole topic on why the engine is junk!: https://videogamecritic.com/forums/view ... 97&t=17975 heck it gotten a huge Periphery Hatedom after that infamous Kotaku article on what went wrong with Anthem: https://kotaku.com/how-biowares-anthem- ... 1833731964, the problem with Frostbite it was made for shooters not other genres so it ended up causing more problems than good and it does show with the engine itself.

I'm not seeing the link to these reviews on the main page of your mobile site.

Remember when there were other football games besides Madden? NFL 2K? NFL Fever? NFL GameDay? NFL Quarterback Club? I liked this a lot better because companies were forced to differentiate their games from one another and you would have to decide which one you wanted. Now that EA is the only one with the rights to use the NFL license there's no reason for them to have to innovate.

What does the engine have to do with anything? It's not like the game is some buggy mess; the problem is that it's the same old Madden that they've been cranking out since at least Madden '11. Whatever the issues with the engine, they clearly didn't have any effect on a decade's worth of stagnation.

Still does not help Madden, or dare I say other modern projects from EA looking at you Anthem!

A little too fair on Madden! Another year, another garbage game! Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be playing Madden 2005 on my Gamecube!

I do remember SuperiorShark and that's a great point. The golf game, which seems like utter trash, got me reminiscing about PGA 95 or 96 for the computer. It was just a way more simpler game and time. I remember, it must have been 96, EA had an add on course that would be on sale at the stores for like $20-30 dollars. It was basically what DLC is today. But it was so fascinating looking at bonus courses at the stores. It's kind of funny for me seeing EA become a billion dollar company since I remember playing the first Madden which was computer only in 89 maybe a little later. And all their games were good back in the beginning in the early 90's I guess. It didn't seem like this big corporation back then.

Serious question: How does the newest Madden compare to ESPN NFL 2k5? And which Madden would you consider the best in the series?

I have no clue if that’s true what Sonic says about the engine, but I will say this. I mentioned to my friend years ago who gets every madden and I told him it seems like they reuse the engine every year now that was like 8 years ago. And I thought it was to low to the field the behind the qb standard view it should have been higher. As for the 2nd question I think the earlier the better the farther back you go on the genesis 92 the more Arcadey it gets. I’d have to think the earlier ones are best for multi.
