Re: 2020/7/23: Game Boy: Choplifter II, Wave Race
I think almost everyone who sees Wave Race nowadays assumes it's a downport from the N64 version. Certainly I did!
Choplifter II sort of sounds like the kind of game I might enjoy, though I tend to be pretty forgiving of confined-space helicopter rescue games. I wonder if Choplifter III is any better?
Speaking of which, if you have a Genesis or Master System flash cart, you might take a look at Air Rescue on the Master System sometime, as it's a somewhat appealing (and pleasantly short) game in that "rescue people with a helicopter" genre. There's an annoying flaw in the controls, but it still struck me as one of the better Master System games I've played. Nice music too.

Re: 2020/7/23: Game Boy: Choplifter II, Wave Race
I remember the first Christmas I had a Game Boy, Wave Race was on my wishlist of games. There must have been something about the cover that made it look cool because I hadn't seen or heard anything else about the game, like not even a screenshot. I'd only seen (and circled!) it in a store Christmas catalogue.
I didn't get it, and quickly forgot about it.
I finally checked it out briefly few weeks ago and definitely agree it's a little bland. I don't think it would've lived up to my expectations had I got it as a kid, but I'm sure I would've got some enjoyment out of it.
I did get a port of Micro Machines that year, which has tons more personality but was really difficult to see, let alone play, when racing at high speeds on that little burry green screen. Maybe that impacted some of their game design.

Given the Wave Race on Switch topic in the forums, I am glad to see the original game reviewed!
Choplifter III was the only original GB version I played at any length; I recall having fun with that one, though when I tried Choplifter II I think I spent only a short time before moving on.

I absolutly agree. On the other hand Wave Race is for 1 to 4 players.

On the Wave Rave review VGC wrote that was only 1 player, but it is not.

Yarp, Wave Race GB is one of the few 4+ player games.

I need to play both games, I like Wave Race 64 and Choplifter III on the SNES.
