Your favorite VG boss themes

Postby Zack Burner » July 30th, 2020, 8:04 pm

Mini bosses and final bosses can be included. Here's my list

TMNT Turtles in Time - normal - I'm going to mangle you green slimeballs.

X-men (Arcade) - normal - Nothing moves the Blob!

Chrono Trigger - Magus theme - dark clouds on the horizon brings the ominousness.

Clock Tower 3 - "There she is!"

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoounus - Strange Reunion - "I'll finish you like I finished your father, and the Cooper line will be erased and the only master thief will be Clockwerk!"
- Eye of the Storm - "How delightful. We have a guest. The only thing is.....I Hate unexpected Guests!"

Final Fantasy VI - Decisive Battle - Suplex the train!

Final Fantasy VII - J-E-N-O-V-A - Intensity and fright all rolled into one.

Super Castlevania IV - theme 2 - the dancing ghost couple's number to waltz to your doom!

Castlevania 64 - Dracula's theme (4th Struggle) - frightful intensity against a Dracocentipede form.

Time Crisis - "Since you have traveled so very far, be my guest and let me entertain you!

I grew up with the Sonic - particularly 1 & 2 – being my 'default' go-to games so Robotnik's theme will always be up there for me. Robotnik's boss themes from Sonic 3 & Knuckles win hands down for me out of the series, though. Including his 'normal' theme for the end of each 2nd Act as well as the Final Boss and Doomsday themes.

After playing FFVII for the first time earlier this year, Jenova definitely became a favourite. I wasn't expecting such a dramatic change in the music, plus they made a turn-based RPG battle seem incredibly intense and epic - something I never expected could be done so effectively.

All the boss themes from Dynamite Headdy are great too. Heck that whole soundtrack is good, I dunno if I could pick just one favourite, but if I had to I'd probably go with Spinderella.

Ornstein and Smough, Dark Souls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsps0I58yUM
When you hear that song, you know it's time to separate the boys from the men.

The Witch of Hemwick, Bloodborne: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlY44uKyMII
An underwhelming boss fight, but the music sets the tone perfectly. This isn't supposed to be a trial of strength and endurance, it's you wandering into someone's house uninvited in the middle of a creepy ritual.

Micolash, Bloodborne: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBMhwWN_088
The way the tempo rises throughout the fight, becoming more frantic, perfectly compliments the increasingly insane ravings that Micolash spouts out while you hunt for him in the Nightmare's twisty turny hallways. The song loses a bit of its impact without Micolash being in it, but it's still pretty cool.

(SPOILER!), Undertale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUGnDmDDheI
I won't go into too much detail since so much of this game's appeal lies in discovering the story for yourself, suffice to say that this is the exactly what I want for my final final boss music. You've figured out how to get to the true ending, and all that remains is for you to defeat...the only character worthy of this music. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT THE ENDING SPOILED!

(SLIGHTLY LESS SPOILERY), Undertale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUcThHVbrXY
Just as good as the last song, but for a different reason. This song embodies your horror as you realize what events you've set in motion, even as you struggle just to stay alive. The perfect fit for the final boss of your first playthrough.

Final Ansem, Kingdom Hearts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LilcKJcbZI
When you started this cute Disney action RPG, did you think it would end with you flying in a void of nothingness, fighting a shirtless dude who is also a spaceship? DARKNESS CONQUERS ALL WORLDS!!!

King K Rool, Donkey Kong Country: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMBFdtRbFD0
It starts off all happy and jaunty, but quickly transitions into epic guitar riffs worthy of such an amazing game's final boss.

Dreamcast, Tokyo Extreme Racer, when a boss challenges you. Heavy metal and the intimidating car along with his name, especially the first time one of them challenges you unexpectedly.
