Price was too expensive on Amazon, so I got this for a lot cheaper off Ebay since it's apparently the greatest Gamecube game ever made plus it's September which equals autumn which equals spooky season.
And yeah this might be the best Gamecube game I've ever played. I usually steer clear from horror games (I'm a wuss) but the game's combination of action and survival horror is so good that it transcends the horror genre into an experience any adult gamer can enjoy and needs to play.
The game is so well designed that it's actually fun to backtrack. You're constantly getting items in this game, and the monsters and puzzles are challenging without feeling discouraging. I especially love whenever the merchant shows up because while the game is terrifying at times and leaves you with a sense of paranoia constantly, areas where the merchant shows up make you feel safe, plus it's fun selling him all the treasures you find on your way.
Graphically this might be the best looking game on the system. It's hard to believe it's a Gamecube game because it looks like an early 360 title! The water effects, lightning, and rural scenery all add to the moody, murky atmosphere the game offers, and when it turns dark the scariness goes up a notch. It's not filled with cheap jumpscares, but the game fills you with a sense of dread all the way through.
Overall, can't stop playing it, love pretty much everything about it. Let's see if that continues now that I found the president's daughter. So far playing with her isn't annoying at all! This is really an A+ game so far, so glad I bought it.

I have this but on the PlayStation 2. It is hands down my favorite game of all time, Snatcher on the Sega CD is a distant second. I also easily give it an a plus obviously.

Been playing the PS4 version. I can’t get the 5 stars rating with Leon on Mercenaries mode. I did it back in the day on PS2, so maybe I’ll get it eventually

Re: Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube)
So I've played a lot of the game with the president's daughter next to me. My pet peeve with many games of this nature are they require you to escort someone is how tedious and drawn out these are, and they really take you out of focus when it comes to the gameplay.
Resident Evil 4 is a huge exception, however. It's a testament to how brilliantly designed the game is that escorting the president's daughter never gets in the way of the fun, and if anything it helps enhance the gameplay and tension by keeping you on your toes in a number of clever ways (like sniping cultists down while she pulls levers to access new rooms).
The sheer scope and variety of enemies/surroundings this game has to offer is remarkable considering it just takes place in a dark village and a castle! It seems like every new room, like Super Metroid, has something new to offer, and the graphics still looking like a million bucks make it all the more appealing. It's a challenging but never frustrating game.
So has this taken Breath of the Wild's title as my favorite game ever? I'm not entirely sure, but it's very close. The further I progress in this game, the more fun it gets!

I think that maybe Resident Evil 4 could be the best of the whole series. Thanks for the tip, it has been years since I last played it. I think a revisit is due.

Re: Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube)
The only version I own or have played is on the Wii. I'd really love to play it again but I just don't feel like using the motion controls. That said, it is pretty cool how you can simply swing the remote for a knife attack. First time in the series it felt like the knife served a purpose beyond getting you killed. Having not played a regular version of the game, I'm curious how the aiming differs. Pointing the Wii Remote was extremely intuitive. It does take some getting used to...not just having the controller lying in your lap.

I got (and think still have) the PS2 version. Played this while on vacation, or staycation, during the summer of '07, and finished it during that week. Spent hours and hours on RE4, and by the time I was finished, it was Sunday night around 9:30, and had to go back to work the following day. Hey, it was worth it.
