Let me know what you think of these two new Genesis review. Chakan is a re-review (D to F).

The bad animation and other issues makes it sound like Chakan was rushed. Too bad.

Nice seeing these -- always pleased to get more Genesis reviews. I own both games but haven't yet played either of them for more than a few minutes.

I know Chakan has some enthusiastic defenders, but I'll have to play it in earnest to find out whether I'm likely to be one of them. :) Beyond Oasis is very pretty and is held in high esteem by several friends of mine; I feel foolish for not giving it a shot yet.

As a side note, given that you're open to action RPGs, I'm always surprised that you haven't reviewed the Ys games. I think Ys III on the Genesis might be up your alley, and Ys I on the SMS has its charm, though maybe the Turbo CD version is preferable (I haven't played that one).

Loved Beyond Oasis. Pretty sure I finished the game years ago on the Sega Channel.

Two games I really wanna check out sometime. Beyond Oasis is on the Mega Drive Mini too (as the less appealingly titled Story of Thor in Europe).

Am I the only one who's always seen Chakan as a rip-off of the Iron Maiden mascot, Eddie?

Your review of Beyond Oasis makes me think you'd enjoy Alundra. It's a PS1 game that sounds very similar. Zelda-style gameplay with larger and more detailed characters, stronger emphasis on story, wider variety of combat choices, etc. I'd love to see a review of that if you can track down a copy!

Ah, Beyond Oasis... A fun game that I need to go back and revisit. There is a Sega Saturn sequel that is supposed to be good, though I have not had the pleasure of trying it.

As for Chakan... I'm not familiar with the source material, and don't recall what I thought the few times I have tried it.
